Mendol USA, the American expansion of global marine engineering firm Mendol, celebrates 20 years of service in the United States. The engineering company offers creative, custom engineering solutions such as refit, repairs and diagnostics to superyachts in their own warehouse or off-site.
“We are beyond proud and humbled to ring in our 20th anniversary,” said Miguel Oliveira, the current Owner of Mendol USA. “Our business is a testament to the bravery and hard work of my father and his father.”
Their award-winning services run the gamut from repairs and routine maintenance of large diesel engines, hydraulic service and installation, cooling and seawater systems and ventilation and exhaust issues. The family-run business, spanning three generations, is proudly still standing after fleeing from multiple countries due to political unrest.
Miguel Oliveira grew up in the industry watching his father and grandfather working on large industrial marine equipment. His grandfather, Joaquim Mendes de Oliveira established Mendol in Lournco Marques Mozambique, in 1945 after graduating from the University in Lisbon-Portugal with a Doctorate in Engineering but had to close its doors in the 1970s during the revolution. He and his family became refugees.
The second generation of Mendol USA was born in Durban, South Africa and included oil refineries, container ship refrigeration and ship expansions and operated from 1978 to 1986. Once again, the family had to leave their home due to political unrest, thus beginning the third generation of Mendol in St. Martin in 1990.
In 2002, the company expanded into the United States and Mendol USA was opened.
