Plans for 321 residences include top-tier amenities and connections to the LYNX Light Rail and Blue Line Rail Trail via the adjacent Stewart Creek Greenway
National developer Portman today announces the closing of construction at Savona Residences I, the first of two multifamily phases planned for its redevelopment of Savona Mill in the heart of West End. The community will be anchored by a 105-year-old former textile mill, which Portman is revitalizing into a mixed-use destination featuring ground-floor retail, creative office space and a community-activated plaza adjacent to the Stewart Creek Greenway. Portman will begin vertical construction on Savona Residences in November.
Savona Residences, delivering Q3 2024, will consist of 321 mid-rise multifamily residences in Charlotte’s historic West End. Located just 10 minutes from Uptown Charlotte and the city’s central business district, the development also sits adjacent to the future expansion of the Stewart Creek Greenway that connects to the LYNX Light Rail and Blue Line Rail Trail. Portman is bringing top-tier residential amenities to the property including a pool equipped with cabanas, a pet spa and dog park, yoga and pilates studios, game rooms and a fitness center featuring high-technology equipment.
“As we continue to enhance Charlotte’s skyline with highly sought after residential properties, we’re reinvigorating neighborhoods and bringing a sense of vibrancy to the community,” says Brittani Sanders, vice president of development at Portman. “Savona Residences will feature above-market amenities and offer a pedestrian-centric environment in the historic heart of West End, one of the most desirable and fast-growing submarkets in the city.”
The redevelopment of Savona Mill will serve as an urban retreat in a natural environment, further emulating Portman’s goal of creating walkable and pedestrian-centric districts in urban neighborhoods. Located in West End, the historic structure is being repurposed, reimagined and reclaimed for the community and once complete, will add a sense of walkable synergy to the area.
Portman is also underway on 2161 Hawkins, a transit-oriented, 370-unit luxury residential community in South End. The 1.5-acre site will rise 24 stories and feature 18,700 square feet of ground-floor restaurant and retail and an activated plaza and greenspace with direct connections to the Blue Line Rail Trail and LYNX Light Rail. Portman closed on construction for 2161 Hawkins earlier this month and will break ground in October. Situated just next to 2161 Hawkins with a fourth-floor sky bridge connecting the two is The Line, Portman’s 318,000-square-foot Class-A office tower with ground-floor retail that opened earlier this year.
Outside of Charlotte, Portman’s premier mixed-use pipeline encompasses more than 2.2 million square feet of new development across the country. To learn more about Portman, visit: https://www.portmanholdings.
