Dr. Ericka Covington, Associate Professor of Management and past Faculty Senate President at Coppin State University, has been named to The Arc Baltimore’s Board of Directors.
“As a dynamic business expert and an accomplished leader with a wealth of expertise in leading national marketing initiatives for a major Fortune 500 company, Dr. Covington is a tremendous addition to The Arc Baltimore Board,” says the organization’s Chief Executive Officer, Kathleen McNally Durkin.
“We are very excited to have Dr. Covington on board and looking forward to the positive impact she will have on The Arc and our efforts to support people with developmental disabilities in our community,” Durkin continues.
While experienced in the areas of business and organizational leadership, Dr. Covington’s passion for social justice and her concern for her hometown of Baltimore gave rise to her research evaluating fluctuating leadership styles within the Baltimore City Police Department and how those styles may influence the motivation of patrol officers. Her other areas of research interest include sustainable business development in urban communities and using leadership styles to develop effective organizational practices.
With a BA in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, MS in Criminal Justice Administration from Coppin State University, and her doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, Dr. Covington is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Leadership and Management and has served as a reviewer for the Eastern Academy of Management.
Dr. Covington was elected to The Arc Baltimore Board during the organization’s 2022 Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony, which also featured the election of new officers and award recognitions for those who have gone above and beyond in their service to The Arc.
The organization previously announced three other new Board members: Robbie Thompson, an Assurance Senior Manager for EY; Chris Schantz, a Program Manager with Northrop Grumman Corporation; and Erik Moore, Partner & Director of Investment Strategy at Moore Wealth.
“The hard work and dedication of all of our Board members, award recipients and so many others is the critical component which enables The Arc Baltimore to support people with developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling lives with a sense of belonging, purpose, and meaningful relationships,” Durkin notes.
Dr. Covington is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She lives in Owings Mills, MD with her husband and two sons and their feisty Pomeranian, Dior.
