Biomedical entrepreneurs, researchers and physicians joined leaders from Baltimore’s tech and innovation sectors and leadership from LifeBridge Health to celebrate the sixth anniversary of LifeBridge Health’s BioIncubator on Thursday, September 22, 2022.
The event included a panel discussion on the future of biotech and medical research, innovation and startup culture in central Maryland.
LifeBridge Health’s BioIncubator is the only hospital-based bioincubator in Maryland. Based at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, the bioincubator offers startup businesses access to physicians, patients, health care administrators, researchers and other startup companies for collaboration and partnership.
In just six years, the bioincubator’s tenants have obtained more than $60 million in funding from 36 grants and tenant companies have amassed an impressive 36 patents in that time.
Moreover, the tenants have advanced new testing and treatment methods and have brought potentially groundbreaking technologies to market, including gene therapies for cystic fibrosis, an ingestible capsule for early detection of esophageal cancer, and an ultrasound-enabled bedside feeding tube.
The event celebrated the success of the companies the bioincubator has helped to date and offered a look ahead to future collaborations and success in the biotech space spurred by the ingenuity and commitment of LifeBridge Health, one of the largest community health systems in Maryland.
