Chicheria MX Kitchen Set To Bring Authentic Baja-Inspired Mexican Fare To The Works

Authentic Baja-inspired Mexican fare will soon be available at The Works, the 80-acre adaptive reuse development on Atlanta’s Upper Westside. Project owner Selig Enterprises today announced Chicheria MX Kitchen will be the latest restaurant and bar to join its robust culinary mix. The 4,000-square-foot authentic Mexican concept is set to open in mid 2023.

As the second restaurant by Juan Sebastian Calle and Adam Berlin, founders of popular Spanish tapas restaurant Buena Vida Tapas & Sol and TQM Hospitality group, Chicheria is an elevated, Authentic Mexican restaurant and bar inspired by the dishes and beverages found in the Baja California Peninsula. The duo has enlisted Bravo TV’s “Top Chef” alum Whitney Otawka to consult on the concept’s menu, which will bring the flavors, colors and ingredients from the Baja region to the Upper Westside, focused on the core ingredient, handmade organic blue corn tortillas.

“Chicheria will be unlike any other Mexican restaurant in the market, with health conscious and satisfying, authentic dishes such as our handmade blue corn tortillas and the best Baja fish taco in the city,” said Calle. “Our goal is to create an approachable dining experience that invites our guests to try flavorful and traditional dishes. We’re excited for this next venture and look forward to joining The Works community soon!”

Chicheria’s main dining room and bar will mimic the tones and textures traditionally found in the Mexican peninsula. The restaurant will feature an expansive covered patio overlooking The Spur and a to-go window with an abbreviated food and beverage menu. A main focal point of the restaurant will be the handmade masa program where guests can watch the making of the unique blue corn tortillas firsthand. There will also be a specialty selection of Mexican chichas and margaritas available.  Located on Chattahoochee Row, which comprises 60,000 square feet of “main street” retail and restaurants, Chicheria will be neighbors with Fox Bros Bar-B-Q and Taste Wine Bar & Market.

“Juan’s experience and passion for his restaurants is a perfect fit for The Works,” said Mindy Selig, Senior Vice President at Selig Enterprises. “Chicheria is a delicious, local concept that will offer a unique dining experience.”

Chicheria is joining more than 25 tenants within the first phase of The Works, which spans 27 acres. The Works has opened key restaurants and retailers, including Chattahoochee Food Works, a 31-stall food hall, Fox Bros Bar-B-Q, Dr. Scofflaw’s, Ballard Designs, Les Mains Nail Bar, Adelina Social Goods, Stellar Bodies, Tinte Salon, BOBO Intriguing Objects, Happy Mango and Basik Spaces, with additional tenants set to open in the coming months.
