SharpRank – Quarterly Rankings Report for the Q3 2022

The betting industry’s independent ratings agency, SharpRank, has released its Quarterly RankingsReport for the third quarter.  Ahead of one of gaming’s biggest conventions, G2E, the quarterly report provides a market snapshot of multiple channels in and around sports betting, including media, operators, and financial markets.

Aside from the overall and by sport rankings for individuals and platforms creating betting content and/or making predictions, the report includes new features like a heatmap, volume studies, bias calculations, and most notably a look into their audit process.  The offering outlines the assertions tested and standards set by showcasing the one pager summary of Sports Illustrated’s Audit Report and Opinion.

“It is our responsibility as the industry’s independent ratings agency to set certain standards around what it means to be a credible source of information relative to sports betting predictions.  Our Audit Report and Opinion gives the reader a little insight into that process,” said Chris Adams, CEO of SharpRank.

While most have their eyes on California and other states with legislation for potential legalized sports betting, New Jersey has put into committee a bill that would enable business entity wagering of pooled funds, similar to a “mutual fund”.

“We see the market shifting and a standardized approach to validating these Sharps is necessary, “ Adams said.  “If financial transactions are being affected, independent oversight is the key to unlocking the casual consumer and market tie-ins, like financial products, to the sports betting total addressable market.  All we are suggesting is third-party oversight.  Sounds daunting but it’s not – every other industry has this necessary component – Morningstar, Carfax, Moody’s, JD Power, etc.  For most partners this is a hands-off approach that adds to top line revenue and cuts down on development, production, and operating costs.  The one-page summary of Sports Illustrated’s Audit Report and Opinion is a good example.  While there is a lot of work on our end to opine on these assertions and tests, we think this standardized validity, transparency, etc. is critical to industry stability and consumer fatigue abatement.”
