Maryland Patient Safety Center Names Dr. Adriane Burgess as Director of Perinatal and Neonatal Quality and Patient Safety

The Maryland Patient Safety Center (MPSC), the state’s officially designated center for patient safety and quality improvement programs and education, is pleased to announce the appointment of Adriane Burgess as its Director of Perinatal and Neonatal Quality and Patient Safety. In this newly created position with MPSC, Dr. Burgess will manage all aspects of the B.I.R.T.H. Equity Maryland Program, among other maternal health projects.

Dr. Burgess is a registered nurse and brings more than 25 years of experience working in variety of maternal/child health clinical settings to her new role. She also has served as an Assistant Professor of Nursing, where she coordinated Maternal Child Nursing clinical and didactic courses.

Dr. Burgess holds a variety of certifications in health care quality, education, and obstetrical care. Her passion for supporting initiatives aimed at improving the health and outcomes of birthing people and their babies make her an ideal selection for this role.

Dr. Burgess received her PhD in Nursing in 2017 from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee where her dissertation focused on Maternal ABO Blood Type and its Association with Preeclampsia Subtype.

The author of numerous peer reviewed journal articles on topics in maternal child health clinical quality, Dr. Burgess is invited to speak regularly at the local and national level. “I was born and raised in Maryland. I gave birth to my three children in Maryland hospitals. I have worked most of professional career in Maryland either at the bedside or teaching new nurses, so I am excited to work closely with Marylanders in this new role,” said Dr. Burgess.
