Dolo’s Pizza Co. to Open Permanent Location at Underground Atlanta

Pop-up pizzeria to open first brick-and-mortar restaurant along property’s Lower Alabama Street

New York-style pizza with a Caribbean twist will soon be a staple at Underground Atlanta. Dolo’s Pizza Co., a pizza restaurant currently operating as a pop-up at the historic Downtown Atlanta property, is opening its first brick-and-mortar location at Underground Atlanta, announced property owners, Lalani Ventures. The pizza restaurant plans to open its doors this Fall, with a grand opening celebration planned for later this year.

In 2020, Dolo’s owners, Alyson Williams and Yusef Walker, opened the pop-up pizzeria to serve a new take on personal-size pizza pies. As opposed to pizza-by-the-slice, Walker and Williams prefer to sell whole 12-inch pies meant to be eaten solo. Their made-with-love pizzas are a combination of Walker’s favorite New York-style pizza and the flavors of his Jamaican and Cuban heritage.

“We see ourselves as an ‘underground’ pizzeria, so it was only fitting that we open our first permanent location at Underground Atlanta,” said Williams. “The urban aesthetic and the exciting plans for what’s to come at the property make it the perfect place for us to plant our roots and expand Dolo’s!”

Located along Underground Atlanta’s Lower Alabama Street, Dolo’s will be modeled after an old-school, traditional pizza parlor with an emphasis on pick-up and to-go orders and limited seating available for customers. The menu will remain the same, featuring popular items such as the Matey served with classic marinara, mozzarella, blue cheese, honey and jerk chicken, with new items including a variety of sandwiches served on flavorful left-over pizza dough. Dolo’s hours of operation are Wednesday and Thursdays from 5-9 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. until late.

“We have a consistent buzz at Underground Atlanta through our activations, artist galleries and tenants, such as Future Showbar and The Masquerade, but there is a growing demand for culinary experiences on property,” said Mary Turner, leasing director at Lalani Ventures. “Dolo’s was one of our original tenants through the Creative Carts Pop-Up series when our team reopened Underground Atlanta, and it has been great to watch them attract long lines of adoring pizza lovers. We’re thrilled that their twist on a classic favorite will continue to be a staple at Underground Atlanta”

Lalani Ventures recently announced Georgia’s first craft brewery, Atlanta Brewing Company, will relocate to the historic district and open a new indoor/outdoor taproom, brewery and restaurant on Upper Alabama Street later this year. New concepts at Underground also include Fulton County’s Public Arts Future Lab, an innovative artist residency funded by Microsoft, MARTA Artbound (MARTA’s public art program), and Arts & Entertainment Atlanta; YELLE Beauty, a Black woman-owned and operated beauty concept by Yandy Smith-Harris; Dancing Crepes, a new dining concept also by Yandy Smith-Harris; and Daiquiriville, a 2,200 square-foot indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar with karaoke, fire shows and other entertainment, owned and operated by Colombian-native Luisa Duran. Prior to Lalani Ventures’ acquisition, previous owners signed leases with The Masquerade, famed Atlanta music and events venue; Future Showbar and Restaurant, a 14,000-square-foot, two-story LGBTQ restaurant and bar; and iScream Ice Cream, an old time ice cream parlor with modern edge desserts.
