GBMC HealthCare Announces Final Beam Placement On Centerpiece Of Building Expansion

The Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) today announced the final beam has been placed in construction of the atrium in the Louis and Phyllis Friedman Building inpatient facility. The three-story, light-filled atrium will act as the new front entrance to the hospital and centerpiece of the inpatient facility, which is phase one of The Promise Project. More than 500 employees and volunteers were invited in late August to be part of GBMC history by signing the beam, which is more than 6 ½ feet long.

The atrium will provide easier navigation into the facility. Kiosks, planting spaces, and lounge furniture serve as guides through the main circulation pathway. Many patient rooms will provide the option of views overlooking the space.

The Louis and Phyllis Friedman Building is a 117,000-square-foot inpatient facility addition that will feature two acute care units with 60 spacious patient rooms, a modern lobby, interfaith chapel, healing garden, conference center, and medical library. It is expected to begin serving patients in November of 2023.
