Eight colleges and universities in Maryland are funding new research professorships at their institutions, with help from a state government program.
A total of $16.4 million is being endowed through the Maryland E-Nnovation Initiative (MEI), administered by the Maryland Department of Commerce, which helps spur basic and applied research in scientific and technical fields at the colleges and universities.
Hood College; the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing; Morgan State University; Mount St. Mary’s University; Notre Dame of Maryland University; the University of Maryland, Baltimore; University of Maryland, College Park; and Washington College have raised raised a total of more than $8.2 million in private funding to promote research and technology at their respective campuses. Maryland Commerce then approved matching grants of $8.2 million to support the endowments.
