Foley Hoag LLP announced that legal industry veteran Diane Scheffler has joined the firm as Chief Operating Officer.
Scheffler has more than 30 years of experience in law firm management and consulting. She previously held top Finance and Operations roles at several AmLaw 200 firms.. She earned a B.S. degree in Economics from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Stern School of Business, New York University.
As COO at Foley Hoag, Scheffler will be part of the senior management team working closely with the firm’s Executive Committee on all aspects of the business, including finance, legal recruiting, marketing, human resources, professional development, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I). Scheffler will be resident in Foley Hoag’s New York office.
“We are thrilled to welcome Diane to Foley Hoag,” said Managing Partner Jeff Collins in a statement. “In recent years, the firm has experienced record growth and expansion, which we expect to continue. Diane is exactly what we need at this moment in the firm’s history. She is a seasoned and accomplished business executive who will navigate our business services team through the challenges and opportunities ahead. We are very pleased she has chosen to join us.”
The firm’s New York office has experienced significant growth. In the past two years, 38 new attorneys have joined the firm in New York, enhancing Foley Hoag’s capabilities in intellectual property, life sciences, cannabis, complex litigation, emerging companies and venture capital, and clean energy. Just this month, three lateral New York-area Life Sciences partners joined the firm.
“Our explosive growth in New York requires hands-on executive leadership in that office,” said Managing Partner Jim Bucking. “Diane will also be working regularly in the firm’s other offices, in Boston, Washington, D.C., and Paris.”
“After meeting with the firm’s leadership, lawyers, and business professionals, I was convinced Foley Hoag was the perfect place to continue my career,” Scheffler said. “The values of the organization mirror my own. Its welcoming culture and emphasis on diversity are very appealing. I look forward to helping shape the firm’s future.”
Foley Hoag was recognized earlier this year in the 2022 Am Law 200 Report as one of the top five firms in revenue growth in 2021. The firm has also received numerous recognitions this year for its longstanding dedication to DE&I, including features in Law360 Pulse Diversity Snapshot, The National Law Journal’s LGBTQ Scorecard, and Vault Law.
