Mayors of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County to be joined by first baby born at Broward Health to launch Broward Health Day
WHAT: Broward Health will kick off a yearlong celebration for its 85th anniversary, highlighting its legacy of service to the community during a reception proclaiming Broward Health Day.
Proclamations will be presented by elected officials from Broward County, the City of Fort Lauderdale and the Florida State House of Representatives at Broward Health Medical Center on January 4 at 2 p.m.
The first baby born at Broward Health, Newana Bowman, born at Broward Health Medical Center 13 days after the hospital opened on January 2, 1938, will be attending. Long-term employees will also be on site, including Thelma Coates, an 84-year-old former nursing aid who has worked at the flagship hospital for nearly 60 years.

WHY: Themed Then, Now, Forever Broward Health, the campaign will recognize the hospital system’s milestone anniversary with a series of events, including landmark buildings throughout town being lit up in signature blue on January 4; a family fun day in partnership with the Florida Panthers on Sunday, January 8, at Huizenga Plaza; an art exhibit chronicling the history of the Broward Health system that will travel to Broward Health locations throughout the year; events to recognize physicians, nurses and employees; onesies for newborns; video documentaries; and fundraising events for the Foundation that will incorporate the theme.
