The Rotary Club of Weston’s 25th Annual Rotary Run for Tomorrow (2022) raised over $100,000 to help support local and international charities. The run was held at Cypress Bay High School in Weston.
The event surpassed previous attendance records, with the Marathon, 5K and 10K runs selling out. An estimated 3,000 runners and walkers took part in the run and in total more than 5,000 people came to enjoy the festivities.
“This has long been known as Weston’s largest annual event, but this year we were thrilled to see so many people enjoying the festivities, while also making a difference,” said Frank Dreier, event chairperson. “Not only does the run raise money to help the Rotary Club of Weston support the 25+ charities we work with, but it brings the community together for a day full of bonding and fun.”
The City of Weston Commission Cup 1-Mile Family Walk also had a record number of participants from area elementary schools. The Sagemont School took home the City of Weston Commission Cup and grand prize of $3,000 for having the school with the most student participation. The second and third place schools also received cash prizes. Weston Mayor Margaret “Peggy” Brown and city commissioners Byron Jaffee, Chris Eddy and Henry Mead were on hand to celebrate the winners.
The Family Health and Fitness Festival, held after the run, featured more than 50 activity booths run by event sponsors. This year the festival featured a number of obstacle courses and exercise stations, including a Ninja Warrior Challenge, volleyball, basketball hoops, relay races and much more. City commissioners took part in a dunk tank.
Each booth offered raffle tickets for participation, and at the end of the day a number of prizes were raffled off, including a PlayStation5 grand prize package and much more. This event wouldn’t be possible without our amazing sponsors: Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, UKG, Moshin and Fauzia Jaffer Foundation, DynaServe, Cleveland Clinic Florida, Broward Health and many more.
