Dentons announces today that former four-term United States Congressman Jeff Denham is joining the Firm’s Federal Advocacy team as senior policy director. During his time in Congress, he worked with his former colleague and good friend Congressman Joe Crowley, who joined Dentons as a senior policy director last year.
Denham brings significant transportation and infrastructure, agriculture, natural resources and energy experience to clients looking to better operate and protect their businesses. During his eight years in Congress, Denham helped draft dozens of bills including the 2018 ENLIST Act, the 2015 Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act and the 2012 Veterans Skills to Jobs Act. He takes a bipartisan approach to the work that he does, which has included securing major national and local legislative victories for constituents as well as bringing disparate groups together to work through difficult issues.
“Congressman Denham’s extensive background in policy will be a tremendous asset to our clients,” said Eric Tanenblatt, the Firm’s Global Chair of Public Policy and Regulation. “Congress is expected to be aggressive with government investigations, an area of practice in which the Firm already has a strong presence. The addition of Congressman Denham will further our abilities to assist our clients on any legislative, regulatory or investigative matters, regardless of which party controls the House, Senate or White House.”
“Jeff comes to Dentons with a deep understanding of policymaking, extensive relationships on the Hill, and a strong background in delivering for clients,” said Crowley. “Jeff is highly respected on both sides of the aisle and I’m thrilled to work with him once again. With a depth of experience in agriculture, transportation, and infrastructure, Jeff will be an invaluable resource to our clients and will help grow our footprint in these spaces.”
While in Congress, Denham was a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he was the chairman of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials as well as the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management. Prior to his election to Congress, Denham served as a California state senator for eight years, during which time he was chairman of the Agriculture Committee and Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Denham was appointed by then-House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to serve on the leadership team and by WHIP Steve Scalise (R-LA) to serve as a Deputy WHIP for the House Republican Conference during his time in Congress.
Joining alongside Denham is Jordan Cooper, who will serve as managing director.
