Grubbly Farms’ donation will support over 100 chickens at nonprofit organization and sanctuary, The Chicken Rescue
National, sustainable pet food company Grubbly Farms has donated two pallets – or 1,280 pounds – of World Harvest Grubblies, all-natural snacks for chickens, to Round Top based The Chicken Rescue.. The Chicken Rescue is a 501c3 volunteer organization dedicated to the care of sick, injured, neglected and abused chickens. The nonprofit has over 100 chickens that are permanent residents at the sanctuary, along with others who are rescued and rehomed. Grubblies World Harvest is unique in that it is both good for the environment and for the health of the chickens.
“Chickens are no longer just for commercial farmers or those living in rural areas,” said Sean Warner, CEO and co-founder of Grubbly Farms. “With inflation and rising egg costs, many people across the country, from cities to small towns, are turning to backyard chicken ownership and our healthy feeds to boost egg production, cut costs and gain control of their own food supply. Part of Grubbly Farms’ mission is to educate the public on the benefits of chicken ownership, while also providing a sustainable superfood option that nourishes our pets without harming the planet. We’ve always been inspired by The Chicken Rescue’s passion in rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming forgotten or neglected chickens and are grateful to continue our partnership with them as they execute their amazing mission.”
The Chicken Rescue offers a safe and healthy environment for abused or neglected chickens that have been abandoned. These chickens often come from tragic backgrounds and include former cockfighting roosters, dumped roosters, slaughterhouse escapees, ex-battery hens and predator attack survivors. Once rescued, the birds are brought to the chicken rescue and sanctuary, where they receive individualized care for their illnesses or injuries and ongoing rehabilitation. The Chicken Rescue works closely with potential, loving adopters to pair them with each unique rooster and hen, who will get a second chance at life as cherished creatures in their new homes.
“The Chicken Rescue has been able to save more than 1,500 chickens around the country since we began in 2016, and we couldn’t have done it without donations and support from partners like Grubbly Farms,” said Tiffany Ballou, founder and executive director of The Chicken Rescue. “This generous donation of Grubblies World Harvest will allow us to continue to rescue more chickens and provide an excellent quality-of-life at our sanctuary by nourishing them with food they naturally love.”
World Harvest Grubblies are made from black soldier fly grubs, a nourishing daily snack grown on farms across the world and according to EU standards, the highest standards in the world for growing insects. Grubbly’s founders first introduced black soldier fly grubs to the backyard chicken market in 2016.
Grubs are an alternative all-natural protein that is healthy for pets and easy on the earth. They are packed with nutrients and sustainably grown with 90% fewer resources than conventional protein like beef. The grubs consume a diet of pre-consumer waste, or recycled fruits, vegetables and grains that would otherwise go to landfills where they’d decompose into methane, a greenhouse gas that’s 20x more harmful than CO2. Just one pound of dried grubs or Grubblies helps to divert 10 pounds of food waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
Notably, the pet food industry is a major contributor to the climate change crisis. According to PlantBasedNews, numerous reports have found animal agriculture to be responsible for anything from half to 87% of annual greenhouse gas emissions.

About Grubbly Farms:
Grubbly Farms’ mission is to make a sustainable superfood that nourishes pets without harming the planet. In 2015, two cousins from Georgia Tech founded Grubbly Farms, an e-commerce startup in Atlanta pioneering the use of sustainable insect-based protein in pet food. Grubbly Farms’ key ingredient is black soldier fly grubs, harvested on food that would otherwise go to waste, providing relief to landfills and combating the world’s massive food waste issue. The startup first launched in the backyard chicken market and recently expanded into the dog food market. To date, Grubbly Farms has recycled over 20 million pounds of food waste and serves over 100,000 pets.
