WilmerHale and Miriam’s Kitchen recently initiated a new partnership that will support the latter in the areas of finance, volunteerism, and both in-kind and pro bono legal services. Additionally, the two-year partnership will allow for attorneys and staff of the firm opportunities to volunteer for seasonal supply drives and daily meal shifts, in addition to supporting the organization’s annual gala and more.
“This partnership builds on the firm’s long history of supporting public institutions and charitable organizations in the cities in which we practice,” says Catherine Carroll, partner-in-charge of the firm’s DC office. Carroll adds that the firm “is proud to partner with Miriam’s Kitchen,” and that they “look forward to harnessing the time and talents of both staff and lawyers to further support the organization’s mission to end chronic homelessness.”
After convening in early 2022, a committee of involved lawyers and staff at WilmerHale vetted numerous organizations, spoke with community leaders, and held virtual meetings with top finalists for the partnership. Public Service Manager Anne Bowie says that Miriam’s Kitchen stood out amongst other organizations considered for the partnership. “While there are numerous nonprofits addressing the housing crisis, Miriam’s Kitchen impressed our group with their vision to end chronic homelessness and their impactful advocacy on behalf of their guests,” says Bowie. Miriam’s Kitchen CEO Scott Schenkelberg says the partnership is significant to the organization’s success. “We’re excited to receive such thoughtful and timely support from WilmerHale that will aid us in our fight for housing justice in DC.”
The partnership will officially kick off today March 1 at a volunteer event from 12:30-1:30 p.m. with leaders from Miriam’s Kitchen.
