ATCO Properties & Management (“ATCO”), along with partner Shorenstein Properties, LLC (“Shorenstein”), announced today that local fast-casual Middle Eastern restaurant, Halal Street Food, will open its second brick and mortar location at 701 Keswick Avenue Suite 101 at Camp North End this summer.
Husband and wife duo, Khuram Bashir and Damaris Bashir, launched the Halal Food Cart in 2016 at the corner of Trade and Tryon streets in Uptown Charlotte, with a menu inspired by the family’s first restaurant in Michigan, Mi Barrio Halal Latin Grill.
After years of success operating their food cart and growing a loyal following in Charlotte, the family opened its first brick and mortar location at 4044 Connection Point Boulevard in 2022. The Bashirs, who are credited with introducing halal street food to Charlotte, are keeping things in the family, and have tapped son Cristopher Collado to lead their local expansion to Camp North End.
“Halal Street Food has always been about family and the way food brings us together. My parents didn’t speak the same language when they met, and now our menu marries together the beauty of their Pakistani and Dominican cultures. It’s a love story and you can taste it in the food,” said Cristopher Collado, Chief Executive Officer of Halal Street Food.
Featuring its wildly popular white sauce, the menu reflects the family’s Dominican-Pakistani culture. At Camp North End, Halal Street Food will continue serving traditional Halal dishes and favorites such as chicken and lamb over rice, kabobs, gyros, and hummus and pita. The restaurant will also offer new items like falafel, salads, vegan options, as well as breakfast and dessert options.
Collado commented further: “We’ve had the opportunity to serve the city of Charlotte since 2016 and it’s been such an exciting journey for our family, now we’re grateful to grow with the Camp North End community that has been so welcoming and already feels like home.”
The space will feature a casual and inviting atmosphere, with design elements that pay tribute to the original food truck that is still in operation, in addition to oversized light fixtures. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy their food either at a communal table inside or at the myriad of outdoor seating available directly next to the restaurant on Camp North End’s new Keswick Platform.

Developed by ATCO, Camp North End is a state-of-the-art creative development that is being designed and curated to serve the most innovative companies in Charlotte. Select Camp North End buildings, including 701 Keswick Avenue, where Halal Street Food will be located in the final pavilion spot directly adjacent to Seemingly Overzealous, are being developed as part of a joint venture by ATCO and Shorenstein.
This builds on recent Keswick district leasing announcements including custom hat retailer, FITTEDS; boutique cocktail and small bites lounge, Room Service; upscale specialty market, Stay Inn; dairy-free ice cream purveyor, Seemingly Overzealous; and Best Impressions Caterers’ creation of The Revelry North End, a brand-new 600-seat, 23,000-square-foot special event venue. The Keswick food stalls Bleu Barn North End, La Caseta, Plant Joy and SARU are also in close proximity.
