Tradition Preparatory High School Implements Transformative Biomedical Science Program From Project Lead The Way

Hands-on, interdisciplinary STEM-based curriculum supported by Mattamy Homes uniquely prepares students for life beyond the classroom

Tradition Preparatory High School announced today that it will offer Project Lead The Way’s (PLTW) Biomedical Science program. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that offers transformative classroom and learning experiences for PreK-12 students. Tradition Prep High School is joining more than 12,200 schools across the U.S. providing opportunities for brighter futures for all students.

“PLTW has a long history of empowering students to own their education through active, hands-on, and real-world learning,” said Principal Teresa Brown. “Tradition Prep is proud to offer our students the opportunity to tackle anything from wellness to controlling a global pandemic before even graduating high school.”

Mattamy Homes, North America’s largest privately owned homebuilder, is supporting the program through partial funding of state-of-the-art science labs where Tradition Prep. Students will work with the same tools used by professionals in hospitals and labs, engaging in compelling, hands-on activities, and working together to find solutions to problems.  As master developer of Tradition, Mattamy is creating opportunities to connect the school with healthcare and innovative enterprises such as PLTW.

Whether discovering new cancer treatments or teaching healthy lifestyle choices to their communities, today’s biomedical science professionals are tackling big challenges to make the world a better place. By immersing students in real-world activities, PLTW Biomedical Science empowers them to build knowledge and skills in biomedical science, as well as in-demand, transportable skills like problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, and collaboration they can use in college and beyond.

“PLTW is proud to partner with Tradition Preparatory High School to inspire students to excel in math and science,” said Dr. Vince Bertram, PLTW President and CEO. “Together, we’re empowering millions of young people to become inspired problem solvers. We’re passionate about equipping the next generation of students with the in-demand, real-world knowledge and skills they need to go further whatever path they choose.”

At the center of Tradition Prep’s academic programming is the WISH Model which focuses on Wellness, Innovation, Science and Health. Mattamy Homes is underwriting part of the cost for that program to complement its support of the labs. Students will have the opportunity to earn over 45 college credits while attending high school on campus and can earn industry certifications in Health Science field.

“Our emphasis on preparation for higher education and our modern facilities will make our graduates more competitive college applicants and better prepared for rewarding careers,” said Brown.

Tradition Preparatory High School is opening August 2021 and will initially serve students in grades 9 and 10, adding a grade each year. For more information and to apply visit traditionprep.org.

The high school is part of the Charter Schools USA family of schools and is governed by Renaissance Charter School, Inc., which has been operating a network of the highest-performing charter schools in Florida for over a decade including the State of Florida’s first National Blue Ribbon Charter School.
