Campers receive all-expenses paid experience in effort to provide youth a path to success
WHAT:
Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation’s Summer Camp
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation (CRSF), in collaboration with their youth-serving partners, has selected a group of 200 deserving youths from around the nation to attend a three-day, all-expenses-paid summer camp in Aberdeen, Maryland.
From August 7 to August 9, campers will learn the game of baseball and softball while participating in instructional stations and team-building exercises explaining the fundamentals of being an athlete, such as how to build character and practice sportsmanship.
As the capstone experience for CRSF’s Badges for Baseball program, 100 law enforcement mentors from the surrounding area will offer campers lessons they can take with them beyond the baseball field. These mentors will perform demonstrations for campers to introduce their agencies and careers in law enforcement.
Demonstrations include K9 Units, equipment and vehicle show-and-tell, and the landing of a police helicopter. Each night, campers will engage in a camp-wide discussion where they are asked to reflect on what they’ve learned and how they can take these lessons back to their communities to make a positive impact.

About the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation helps to strengthen America’s most underserved and distressed communities by supporting and advocating for children, building Youth Development Parks and STEM Centers, partnering with law enforcement and youth-service agencies, and addressing community needs through its national program initiatives. Our Badges for Baseball program, created in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice, pairs underserved youth with law enforcement mentors from local communities across the country. Using our sports-themed character education curriculum, we teach valuable life skills like teamwork, communication, and respect while building positive, healthy relationships with adult mentors to at-risk youth from low-income, single-parent homes, and active military duty families as well as youth with disabilities.
