Spurred by the success of its first location, Fuhgedaboudit Bagel Company has selected NewQuest Properties’ Spring Town Center for its second shop in North Houston.
The New York-style bagel shop, totaling 1,872 sf, will open in the fall. The concept’s founders have leased the next-to-the-last space in the 98%-leased Spring Town Center, located at the junction of FM 2920 and Kuykendahl Road in its namesake city.
Fuhgedaboudit Bagel Company is the brainchild of Kurt and RoxieCrowley, who launched their first shop in 2021 after being mentored by artisans in the Northeast on the craft of making authentic New York bagels and schmear. The menu also features New Jersey’s famous Taylor pork roll, a delicacy imported from the Garden State.
“Everything is scratch-made every day. The Crowleys pride themselves on execution and quality of their concept, including the sourcing of ingredients and specialties like pork roll,” says Kevin Sims, a vice president with Houston-based NewQuest Properties and the couple’s tenant representative.
Fuhgedaboudit bagels are made in the traditional boil-and-bake method, with all-natural ingredients, to achieve the iconic crispy exterior and soft ‘n chewy interior of the beloved fare. Since the flagship’s launch, the founders have expanded the concept to include a coffee bar, breakfast and lunch sandwiches and bulk sales.
Fuhgedaboudit Bagel Company’s new shop will be located about eight miles from the couple’s flagship store in Indian Springs Town Center at 6777 Woodlands Parkway in the Woodlands. It’s anticipated one or two new locations could open each year in the future.
“We’ve identified several pockets in the Houston area,” Sims says. “Spring’s proximity to the Woodlands’ store builds in some operational efficiencies that are important at this stage of development.”
Site criteria includes locations on the morning side of commutes. The search is focused on 1,800- sf spaces, give or take – inline or end caps, including ones with drive-through lanes. Second-generation restaurant space is preferred, but not required.
Lara Lee LaMendola, one of NewQuest’s broker associates, represented the landlord of Spring Town Center, a 440,000-sf development strategically positioned at the “main and main” of the city’s primary commercial corridor.
