Proceeds from Sunset Standup will provide affordable art supplies and and workshops for Atlanta’s creative community
Westside Motor Lounge and Scraplanta invite the community to Sunset Standup, a comedy fundraiser event supporting Scraplanta’s mission of providing affordable art supplies and workshops for the Metro Atlanta creative community. On Sept. 23 at 6 p.m., guests are invited to watch talented comedians David Perdue, Mark Kendall, Storhm the Artiste, Tumi Morake, Carlette Jennings and Mandal take the stage, while also perusing upcycled art from artists across Atlanta and sipping on cocktails and enjoying delicious bites from Westside Motor Lounge.
“We’re surrounded by art at Westside Motor Lounge, from Guardian Studios and the BeltLine nearby to our very own vibrant murals spread throughout our property,” said Kelly Campbell, operator of Westside Motor Lounge. “It’s an honor to give back to the art community by partnering with Scraplanta for an evening of laughs and beautiful art to support a great cause.”
The three-acre indoor-outdoor culinary experience Westside Motor Lounge is located within Echo Street West, the 19-acre mixed-use development on Atlanta’s Westside. Art is ingrained throughout the mixed-use community, with several hand-painted art installations and a 32-studio artist community home to a wide variety of local artists, Guardian Studios.
“Scraplanta is eager to work with the Westside Motor Lounge and Hot Comics Live to spread our message and reach a different side of Atlanta,” said Jonelle Dawkins, Scraplanta’s Executive Director. “We’re using this fundraiser as an opportunity to provide a platform for creative reuse artists and comedians, so we can raise funds to increase our operating capacity. We recognize the need for community art hubs around Atlanta, and we want to make sure the Creative Community has access to low-cost supplies and material recycling options.”
Scraplanta is a non-profit whose mission is to promote environmental awareness, education and artistic expression to the greater Atlanta community through the collection and reuse of materials for arts and crafts. The organization keeps art out of the landfill and makes it more accessible to the community through its art supply thrift store, pay-what-you-can art workshops and community art programs.
Sunset Standup is co-produced by Hot Comics Live. Tickets are available for purchase via EventBrite. The comedy show is for ages 18 and up due to mature themes. Westside Motor Lounge is an adaptive reuse project, encompassing three former automotive shops, four shipping containers and an abandoned 1982 Mercedes Wagon. The space features a restaurant and bar, beer garden, cocktail lounge and listening room, a half-acre courtyard with yard games and shuffleboard, and a performance stage for live music, comedy shows and more.
