Trophy Tower 101 Park Avenue Achieves LEED Gold Status

H.J. Kalikow & Co., LLC’s 101 Park Avenue, a trophy commercial office building located at the corner of Park Avenue and 40th Street, proudly announced today that it has achieved LEED Gold Certification. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the most widely used building rating system in the world that ranks properties for their achievements in green, building health and other environmental factors.

A LEED score involves buildings meeting certain environmental and health objectives, and by meeting these criteria, are awarded credits or points. Of all LEED credits, 35% relate to climate change, 20% directly impact human health, 15% impact water resources, 105 affect biodiversity, 105 relate to the green economy, and 5% impact community and natural resources. A matrix of points is developed in each of these groups and subgroups resulting in a total number of points. These points then determine a LEED ranking.

101 Park Avenue achieved Gold status in the LEED v.4.1 O+M (Operations and Maintenance) category.

“We are very excited to achieve LEED Gold,” stated Kathryn Kalikow, a principal of the 101 Park Avenue owner, H.J. Kalikow & Co., LLC. “This recognition is a true testament to the vision of my father and his team who understand the symbiotic possibilities of efficiency and environmental friendliness in the design of buildings. This impressive foresightedness—very much ahead of its time—is a great steppingstone as we continue with an eye on energy efficiency, sustainability, and the health of our tenants, employees and visitors to the property.”

Kalikow commented, “We are particularly proud to be the largest property in the State of New York- 1.2 million square feet– to date to achieve Gold certification under LEED v.4.1 for O+M. Moreover, 101 Park Avenue is only one of seven existing office buildings in NYC to ever achieve this specific certification.”

Kalikow concluded, “We want to thank H.J. Kalikow’s architect, David Jhee, who led the effort to achieve this certification. David, our property manager, Danilo Cabus, our chief engineer, Mike Keavney, along with others on our team, worked tirelessly to produce the documentation required for this prestigious designation, as well as the consistent, underlying work required to achieve this result.”
