Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management named Jim Owens, MBA ’97, senior vice president of The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co., and Michele Whelley, founder and principal of M.L. Whelley Consulting, to the school’s Board of Sponsors.
- Jim Owens has served Whiting-Turner for 40 years and helped lead over $2 billion in construction projects, including independent living facilities and multi-family housing in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. His community service activities include serving on the board for Harford Family House. Owens holds an MBA from Loyola and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Delaware.
- Michele Whelley specializes in economic development consulting at Whelley Consulting. For three years, she led the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, supporting and marketing the Baltimore area’s economic assets. Previously, she was CEO of the Central Maryland Transportation Alliance, founding CEO of the Economic Development Corp. of New Haven, CEO of the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore and executive vice president of the Baltimore Development Corp. She holds a law degree from the University of Maryland.
The Sellinger School’s advisory groups, including the Board of Sponsors and newly formed Sellinger Leadership Council, advise on the advancement and strategic direction of the school. They ensure that Sellinger provides relevant, rigorous education and meets the needs of the school community and broader business community.
