First Fruits Farm Harvests and Distributes 30,000 Pumpkins in Time for Halloween

Pumpkins Went to 90+ Local and Regional Organizations for Children Who Cannot Access the Festive Fall Staple

First Fruits Farm, a nonprofit ministry that donates all its fresh produce to over 130+ distribution partners in the region, successfully completed its Project Pumpkin. The Farm planted, harvested, and distributed 30,000 pumpkins to schools, churches, and nonprofit organizations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The pumpkins were shared with children who cannot always access this festive fall staple after an overwhelming interest from local and regional organizations and schools. Pumpkins went to more than 90+ organizations, including many in Maryland such as United Way of Central MD, Cool Kids Campaign, Ed Reed Foundation, Mother Mary Lange Catholic School, New Psalmist Baptist Church, Pimlico Elementary, Scotts Branch Elementary, and several others in Baltimore City.

The pumpkins have been harvesting since September. Most distributions took place in October with a few in late September. All pumpkins were picked up by the recipient organization.

In the Farm’s 25th season of blessing the hungry, it remains true to its Christian faith and commitment to cultivate the sustainable miracle of food to meet people’s hunger for nourishment, service, and inspiration. In 2022, with the help of 16,000 volunteers and 130+ distribution partners, the Farm harvested, packaged, and distributed nearly 2.4 million pounds of healthy food to share with hungry children and adults across the region. The Farm expects to surpass those numbers this year with persistent inflation, the termination of federal COVID programs, and SNAP benefit reductions continuing to impact our communities. The struggle for many continues, and the Farm’s commitment to GROW MORE – GIVE MORE – SERVE MORE endures.
