Brandi Howard Joins Brown Rudnick in DC

Brown Rudnick announced today that Brandi Howard, an accomplished litigator with an especially strong record in the courts of the District of Columbia, has joined the Firm as a partner in the Litigation & Arbitration practice in Washington, D.C.

Howard focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and appellate matters, as well as white collar defense and investigations. She represents corporations and individuals in state and federal courts and in arbitration. Howard was previously a partner at McGuireWoods.

“This is a great addition to our team of trial lawyers,” said Michael Bowe and Lauren Tabaksblat, co-chairs of Brown Rudnick’s Litigation & Arbitration practice. “Brandi’s broad courtroom experience and capabilities, character and temperament, and stellar reputation are a perfect fit for our growing tier-one global litigation practice. She embodies our focus and strength on what actually determines outcomes: courtroom and trial performance.”

Howard’s litigation and investigations experience includes cases involving constitutional issues, breach of contract disputes, consumer protection concerns, employment issues and data privacy. Some of Howard’s past successes include leading a trial team that won a First Amendment lawsuit filed by a former student against a public university and leading an investigation team into the conduct of a nonprofit and its chief executive officer, both of which drew national media attention.

Howard also has an active pro bono practice focused on civil rights cases and issues involving vulnerable populations. In the D.C. Court of Appeals, Howard won a reversal of a D.C. government administrative decision to renew a liquor store’s license despite its documented and admitted contributions to crime in the neighborhood where a 15-year old boy was shot and killed outside of the store.

“We are excited to add Brandi to our global litigation team,” said Steve Wasserman, managing director of Brown Rudnick’s Dispute Resolution & Restructuring Department. “Our litigation practice is a pillar of Brown Rudnick that continues to be recognized as a premier destination for lawyers that are ready to zealously advocate for their clients, in and out of court. Adding Brandi to our ranks, a seasoned litigator in D.C. with key government relationships, provides our clients even more access to our market-leading capabilities.”

Prior to private practice, Howard served as a law clerk for former Chief Judge of the D.C. Court of Appeals Eric T. Washington and Sixth Circuit Judge Damon J. Keith, a civil rights icon. She received her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and her B.A. from American University.

“I am passionate about the courtroom and have seen from both sides of the bench what a difference it can make to clients and the community more broadly. Brown Rudnick’s trial lawyers have a long track record of impactful, meaningful representations in a very broad spectrum of cases,” Howard said. “Those cases extend beyond big commercial and white-collar matters to significant cases concerning civil rights, human trafficking, and other issues of great community importance.  I am excited to be part of that type of team.”
