B’more Dining: Medium Rare Bringing Steak Frites to Rotunda in Hampden

Medium Rare restaurant is about to add an extra touch of charm to Charm City. The award-winning and wallet-friendly steak and frites restaurant is officially opening at The Rotunda in North Baltimore — actually, that’s Hampden, hon! The official opening is Monday, November 20, 2023. That’s right. It opens Monday the 20th!

At The Rotunda, Medium Rare takes over 3,000 square feet of what was once the CineBistro, including the movie theater’s kitchen space. Why Baltimore? So many reasons: First of all, Baltimore is a city of communities, and Medium Rare can’t wait to be part of that. We’re not just a place that serves food, we’re a gathering place, where we all can make lasting connections and celebrate together. Second, there’s the culinary scene–and Medium Rare is excited to be part of a city that has so many flavors to offer. And of course, there’s this: Medium Rare co-owner Mark Bucher is a huge fan of the Ravens and the NFL.   In fact, Bucher’s already warming up to perform gridiron culinary magic at the Taste of NFL 2024 — his third year at the event that helps raise awareness and funds to tackle hunger. (Can somebody say “crab cake hamburger?”)

Amazing Value (and a Secret Surprise )

Medium Rare offers a unique concept that’s an amazing value — simple, consistent, and very reasonably priced.

  • For under $30 per person, guests are treated to a tantalizing three-course prix fixe meal: fresh mixed green salad, artisan rustic bread, and the main attraction: the most flavorful Coulotte steak you’ve ever enjoyed, served with fresh cut fries and topped with Medium Rare’s famous secret sauce.
  • Vegetarian? Get the grilled portobello with fire roasted red pepper sauce.
  • And just between us: there’s also a surprise in store. In the middle of every meal, your server brings seconds! Yes, that’s right: FREE SECONDS!

Save Room for Dessert  …and/or Weekend Brunch

  • Medium Rare’s menu is all about simplicity, but there are plenty of over-the-top, decadent dessert choices — like the 7-layer chocolate cake, the 7-layer carrot cake or their legendary hot fudge sundae.
  • The bottomless brunch is perfect for hungry weekend warriors. Medium Rare’s life-changing French toast (plus plenty of other delicious choices) goes great with mimosas, bloody marys and vodka with some orange juice, aka screwdrivers. All for just under $40 per person.

Reservations are available on OpenTable, but fear not, Medium Rare always leaves room for walk-ins.

Fighting Hunger & Food Insecurity

More than just serving up great food and great service, the owners of Medium Rare plan to continue their dedication to helping the Baltimore community address food insecurity, just like they do in D.C. with their Feed the Fridge program. Feed the Fridge is a network of community refrigerators filled daily with restaurant-quality food. Anyone and everyone can help themselves to as many free meals as they need, no questions asked.

About Feed the Fridge

Feed the Fridge brings nourishment where there is hunger while helping small, local restaurants stay in business. Though it started as a short-term response to the pandemic, it now plays a major role in solving hunger by transforming “food insecurity” into “meal security.” In just over two years, Feed the Fridge has increased community food access:

  • Placing 34 refrigerators at recreation centers, schools and other locations around D.C and Maryland.
  • Providing more than 3 million free meals to anyone who needs them.
  • Through donations, paying participating restaurants more than $2 million to provide meals, which in turn helps those restaurants stay open and pay employees.
