Guy and Jessica Harvey Discuss Ocean Conservation Awareness at Palm Beach Chamber Breakfast

With the backdrop of the sparkling ocean at the beautiful Breakers Palm Beach, it was only fitting that the guest speakers during the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce breakfast were world-renowned marine artist, scientist and conservationist Dr. Guy Harvey and his daughter, Guy Harvey Foundation (GHF) CEO Jessica Harvey.

More than 500 local corporate and community leaders and Town of Palm Beach government officials were on hand for a lively Q&A with Guy and Jessica, focused on the importance of ocean conservation, marine science education and entrepreneurship and led by Palm Beach Chamber President and CEO Douglas C. Evans.

Guy and Jessica shared exciting updates on the GHF marine science curriculum that is available to students in Florida, in classrooms, on the Guy Harvey website and through partnerships with Discovery EducationFlorida Virtual School and Ocean First Education. They also shared important research taking place on shark genomes, shark and billfish tracking research through the Guy Harvey Research Institute at Nova Southeastern University, recent coral reef restoration projects, partnerships, Guy’s latest book 10,000 Chicken Sandwiches and more.

“It is our collective responsibility to conserve the marine environment and maintain the biodiversity of this planet,” Guy said as he and Jessica encouraged guests to support conservation efforts and team up with GHF to make a difference. “Conservation is good for business.”

Palm Beach Mayor Danielle Moore also presented Guy with a proclamation from the Town of Palm Beach, declaring October 23rd as “Dr. Guy Harvey Day.”

About Guy Harvey

Guy Harvey is a unique blend of artist, scientist, diver, angler, conservationist and explorer, fiercely devoted to his family and his love of the sea. His childhood passion for the ocean and its living creatures not only inspired him to draw, but fueled a burning interest that prompted a formal education in marine science. Having graduated with honors in Marine Biology from Aberdeen University in Scotland in 1977, Guy returned home to Jamaica to resume his education, earning his Ph.D. from the University of the West Indies in 1984. Though he gave up a budding career as a marine biologist for that of a highly acclaimed artist, Guy has continued his relentless pursuit to unravel the mysteries of the sea, traveling the world to better understand the habits and habitats of the marine wildlife he paints.
