Skanska Selected to Build new Wake County Public Health Center and Parking Structure

Skanska, a leading global development and construction firm, has been awarded a $117 million contract to construct a 155,000-square-foot facility as part of the new Wake County Health and Human Services Campus. The new building will streamline services and the experience for Wake County citizens in need of social, health and economic assistance.

“As the population in Wake County continues to grow, it is imperative that the people who live and work in the community have a facility that can meet the increasing demand for important services,” said Mark Balling, executive vice president responsible for Skanska’s North Carolina and Virginia building operations. “We are proud to partner with the county to bring such a vital facility to fruition to serve those who need it most.”

To better enhance accessibility for visitors in need of Wake County Public Health and Social Services Programs, the new campus will be built along Swinburne Street in Raleigh. The 15-acre site and new campus is closer to communities most in need of county health and human services and closer to public transportation. Additionally, Skanska will also spearhead the construction of a new five level parking deck capable of accommodating over 500 vehicles.

“Public health plays a crucial role in promoting and protecting the health of our communities,” said Shinica Thomas, Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair. “This new, state-of-the-art facility reinforces our strong commitment to providing accessible and high-quality healthcare services to all our residents.”

Construction started in August of 2023 and is expected to be completed in late 2025.
