Courtney B. Amelung has been named a Partner at the Baltimore-based employment and labor law firm Shawe Rosenthal LLP.
Amelung represents employers in a wide range of labor and employment matters in court and before federal and state agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Labor.
“Courtney’s wealth of experience – particularly in the areas of wage and hour compliance, affirmative action and OFCCP compliance, FMLA and ADA leave management, corporate governance, and discrimination, harassment, and retaliation – and her innate ability to provide practical, strategic solutions to our clients’ most challenging legal issues made her an obvious choice to be named partner,” says Shawe Rosenthal Co-Managing Partner Teresa D. Teare.
A cum laude graduate of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law where she served as Notes and Comments Editor on the Maryland Law Review, Amelung also provides human resources advice and counseling, and prepares and revises employee handbooks, personnel policies, employment audits, and non-compete and confidentiality agreements.
Super Lawyers Magazine named Amelung a Maryland Rising Star in the Employment and Labor practice area from 2021-2024. She also was recently recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America.
Before joining Shawe Rosenthal, Amelung practiced at a regional civil litigation firm where she focused on management-side employment and labor law, medical malpractice defense, and commercial and business litigation. She also served as a judicial law clerk for Magistrate Judge Beth P. Gesner in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
A member of the American and Maryland Bar Associations, Amelung is certified by the D.C. Office of Human Rights to provide sexual harassment training, as required by the D.C. Tipped Wage Workers Fairness Amendment Act of 2018. She currently serves on the Legislative Committee for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, an invitation-only committee that develops the Chamber’s position on legislation affecting the business community.
Shawe Rosenthal has long been recognized as a top-ranked labor and employment firm by Chambers USA and U.S. News and World Report/Best Lawyers.
