Study Hotels Opens The Study at Johns Hopkins

The latest Study Hotel from Hospitality 3 has opened its doors in Baltimore, MD

Study Hotels is pleased to announce the expansion of its portfolio with the opening of its newest property, The Study at Johns Hopkins, which began welcoming guests in late Fall 2023. From New York-based developer Hospitality 3, The Study at Johns Hopkins is the fourth hotel in the collection, alongside The Study at Yale in New Haven, CT; The Study at University City in Philadelphia, PA; and The Study at University of Chicago in Chicago, IL.

Situated at the main gate of Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Campus, on the corner of 33rd and North Charles Street, the hotel is located in the heart of North Baltimore’s historic Charles Village neighborhood. An adaptive reuse endeavor, the hotel exudes character and boutique charm, highlighted by the building’s 100-year-old historic façade, purposely restored to maintain its familiar place in the community. Designed to embody the academic spirit and personality of the university, guests instantly feel immersed in both campus life and the surrounding neighborhood. The Study at Johns Hopkins is the first and only hotel located on the university’s Homewood Campus.

“We’re thrilled to open our newest hotel on the esteemed campus of Johns Hopkins University,” said Paul McGowan, President & Founder of Hospitality 3 and Study Hotels. “The Study at Johns Hopkins fills the void for refined and comfortable lodging for both the university and surrounding community. We look forward to welcoming alumni, students, parents, and visitors through our doors and watching the hotel become a positive fixture within the Charles Village neighborhood.”

Design

With 115 guest rooms and suites, The Study at Johns Hopkins features a refined, contemporary aesthetic and thoughtfully appointed rooms designed in collaboration with Hospitality 3, DIGSAU Architects and 15 Moreland Design Studio. The interior spaces have been opened up to provide abundant natural light, and warmly furnished to encourage social interaction, reflection, and rejuvenation. Rooms are equipped with all the amenities Study Hotels is known for—the perfect leather reading chair for scholarly guests, writing desks, comfortable bedding, and large operable windows for prospective students, alumni, and visitors looking to view the campus.

The hotel’s public space, which is referred to as the “Living Room,” is furnished with an eclectic mix of transitional furniture with warm, natural fabrics and accents. Large bookcases, a hallmark feature of Study Hotels’ Living Rooms, showcase lifestyle topics for casual reading and books by Johns Hopkins University authors, scholars, and alumni. The space includes an active art gallery, featuring work by students and local artists on a rotating basis. Guests are welcomed into the hotel by a life-size montage of historical artifacts painted by artist Christie DeNizio. The hotel maintains a smart complement of 2,500 square feet of private meeting space, and a well-appointed fitness center.

Food & Beverage

The Study at Johns Hopkins features on-site dining at Dear Charles, a regionally inspired restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel. Surrounded by the charming, historic Charles Village neighborhood, Dear Charles welcomes locals and guests into an intimate and warmly furnished space that feels both sophisticated and comfortable. The restaurant evokes a sense of history and belonging and serves as a fixture where the community can come together to share conversations, celebrate with friends, or relax alone. Influenced by the bounty of the Mid-Atlantic and the vibrance of an established village tavern, patrons will find elevated yet familiar menu items, complemented by a beverage program that focuses on cleverly reimagined classics. The 85-seat restaurant is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with walk-ins and reservations welcome.
