Frascione Gallery (Italy, Palm Beach) is delighted to announce its exhibition of a rare work by the renowned Italian sculptor and painter, Amedeo Modigliani (1884, Italy-1920, France), at the Palm Beach Show, that opened on February 15th, and continues through President’s Day Weekend until February 20th. Modigliani’s distinctive portraits and nudes are characterized by asymmetrical compositions, elongated figures, and a simple yet monumental use of line.
“The painting is titled L’Écolier (The Pupil, 1919) and the subject is the son of Modigliani’s neighbor. Hollywood’s Golden Age actress, Hedy Lamarr, and film director and actor, Vittorio De Sica, are listed in the painting’s provenance.”
This announcement is particularly timely in light of the upcoming biographical drama film on Modigliani’s life, titled “Modì” and directed by Johnny Depp.
Modigliani’s deep admiration for Italian Renaissance paintings is evident, and it is believed that his early Parisian works were influenced by this period. At Frascione Gallery’s booth 400/501, guests will have the unique opportunity to explore works by Modern and Contemporary artists alongside Renaissance and Baroque masters, including: Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio (Florence, 1483-1561); Louis Finson (ca. 1607, Belgium/Amsterdam); Agostino Beltrano (Naples, 1607-1656); Guglielmo Sansoni aka TATO (Bologna/Rome); Duilio Cambellotti (Italy); Lo Scheggia (San Giovanni Valdarno, 1406 – Florence, 1486); Ottavio Vannini (Florence, 1585-1643); Charles Lebayle (Paris, 1856-1898); Fabio Viale (Italy); Reynier Llanes (Cuba); Salustiano (Spain); Federico Uribe (Colombia); Szymon Oltarzewski (Poland); Ben Sack (United States); Francesco Botti (Florence, 1645-1711).
