Patricia Jefferson Joins Miles & Stockbridge Board of Directors

Miles & Stockbridge announced today that Patricia B. Jefferson, a restructuring lawyer and litigator, has been elected to the mid-Atlantic law firm’s Board of Directors. Jefferson, a principal who leads the firm’s Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy practice, has been at Miles & Stockbridge for almost 20 years and, as a board member, will help lead the firm’s strategic direction and support its long-term success and growth.

“Patti has been instrumental in the firm’s year-over-year success,” said Nancy Greene, chairman, president and CEO. “She is results-oriented, practical and innovative for her clients and will bring those same qualities to the firm’s continued growth and success. Patti joins the board at an exciting time on the heels of the firm’s record-setting year.”

“I have built my legal practice across two decades at Miles & Stockbridge and it’s where so many valued client and colleague relationships have taken root and grown,” said Jefferson. “To now play a role in guiding and supporting the firm’s future direction for these same clients and colleagues is an honor to which I will bring my all.”

About Patti Jefferson

Representing Creditors

Jefferson represents a wide variety of creditors in all aspects of bankruptcy cases. She also represents and advises secured lenders in formulating and executing workout strategies outside of bankruptcy. In addition to this experience, she represents creditors in commercial collection matters and regularly advises clients regarding distressed real estate and commercial foreclosures and receivership actions. She also is deeply experienced in asset acquisitions, both in and outside of bankruptcy.

Jefferson has served on the panel of Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustees for the District of Maryland since 2019 — an appointment she considers her most significant professional accomplishment to date. In her role as a Chapter 7 trustee, she has been able to combine her almost two decades of bankruptcy experience representing a variety of creditors with her background in distressed real estate, transactional finance and corporate law. “Professionally, I get great satisfaction from knowing that the legal path I have chosen is one small part of the much larger checks and balances critical to U.S. economic success,” said Jefferson.

She presents regularly at legal education seminars and has been recognized as a leading bankruptcy and restructuring lawyer in Maryland by Chambers USA since 2015.

Launching Wellness Committee

Jefferson has served on various firm committees and most recently launched a Wellness Committee in early 2022 as colleagues were returning to the office from the COVID-driven remote workplace. Jefferson recognized the firm’s need for a formal and immediate wellness program and went to work building the program around the idea that “wellness” means different things to different people. The program continues today under the leadership of the firm’s Human Resources team to help colleagues manage stress, achieve work-life balance and develop healthy habits through firm-driven education and initiatives.

Leading Boards

Jefferson served on the board of the Chesapeake Chapter of Turnaround Management Association for a decade and was president from 2016-2018. She also served on the board of the Greater Maryland Network of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation from 2021-2023 and the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland from 2009-2019, including as president in 2018-19.
