Reporting reveals national impact, including new opportunities for Miami community partners
The Venable Foundation, Inc., the philanthropic arm of law firm Venable LLP, is proud to announce its first gifts of 2024, all of which were distributed this month. Totaling $945,500 in contributions to 123 nonprofit organizations across the nation, these grants and donations include:
- $308,000 to 38 organizations in Washington, DC
- $245,000 to 25 organizations in Baltimore
- $215,000 to 33 organizations in New York City
- $90,000 to 14 organizations in Los Angeles
- $57,500 to seven organizations in San Francisco
- $30,000 to six organizations in Chicago
And with the firm’s recent expansion into the Florida market, the Foundation is now accepting grant proposals from Miami-focused nonprofit organizations that advance causes aligning with the Foundation’s key priorities: human and/or legal services, education, workforce development, youth impact, health, environment, and arts and culture. Proposals are accepted three times annually. The upcoming deadline for 2024 funding is September 3. The submission form and additional details can be found here.
“We are proud of Venable’s commitment to giving back to the communities we call home,” Robert L. Waldman, president of the Foundation, commented. “Our partners see the community as a whole and want to connect with the challenges it faces, regardless of whether those issues correspond to a particular area of our practice. It is by helping our neighbors that we can start to chip away at larger systemic issues and create a space where people can thrive.”
Recipients of the grants, which average $10,000 in amount, are purposely broad in their focus. The Foundation supports a wide variety of charitable, civic, and cultural endeavors, and serves public interest law needs in our communities. Grantees provide a variety of programs for the community, including out-of-school activities, arts education, academic enrichment, homeless services, transitional and supportive housing, access to food, LGBTQ+ services, college access, workforce development, environmental preservation, health-based initiatives, legal services, immigration support, and a variety of other issues affecting low-income individuals and domestic violence survivors.
“The Venable Foundation is particularly interested in how its grants impact low-income and under-resourced communities and help to eliminate barriers to success,” said Michael Bigley, director of the Foundation.
The Venable Foundation, which celebrates four decades of impact, is one of the oldest law firm foundations in the United States and is regularly recognized and ranked as one of the most charitable. In 2023 alone, the Foundation awarded more than $3.8 million in grants to 394 nonprofit organizations. The Foundation is proudly funded by the partners of Venable LLP.
