ABC Institute Apprenticeship College, the educational and training arm of Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter, held its graduation ceremony on July 13. The ceremony commemorated 120 dedicated construction apprentices from all over Florida who completed their classroom education this year.
Depending on the program, students spent up to four years working full-time during the day, while attending up to 200 annual hours in classes at the institute during evenings. ABCI boasts comprehensive training across seven trades and ten campuses statewide. Miami-Dade County Commissioner René Garcia, the keynote speaker, inspired the students.
Students graduating in the trades of line erector, roofing, fire sprinkler, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and HVAC celebrated with their families, friends, and fellow classmates at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines.
“This year’s graduating class was truly exceptional,” said Alberto Altamiranda, Director of Education of ABC Institute. “We had students overcome challenges, tragedies and adversity to reach their goals. We’re proud of each and every student and all they have accomplished during their time at the Institute.”
ABCI, headquartered in Coconut Creek, is the single largest apprenticeship education provider in Florida. It provides tuition-free training and the ability to graduate debt-free for individuals seeking careers in construction trades. ABCI invests over $2.6 million annually in local construction education and training.
As millennials gravitate towards trade jobs amidst a looming worker shortage and escalating student debt crisis, the ABC Institute is a beacon of opportunity and change. ABCI’s programs not only equip students with vital skills and debt-free opportunities but also shape resilient careers in the construction industry.
