Baltimore’s Bishme Cromartie, Winner of Project Runway, to Headline Talk At BMI

Labor + Innovation series explores evolving landscape of work and art

Bishme Cromartie, winner of Bravo TVs fashion design competition Project Runway Season 20, is returning to his hometown to launch the Baltimore Museum of Industry’s new lineup of candid conversations exploring the intersections of work and art.  Moderated by local radio/podcast producer Aaron Henkin, Labor + Innovation is a quarterly series starting Wednesday, October 9 featuring thoughtful discussions led by everyday workers, activists, and industry leaders.

Cromartie was born and raised in Baltimore, and attended Reginald F. Lewis High School.  According to his bio, he began to sketch designs at the age of 8, and says his mission as a Black designer is to encourage self-expression, advocate for representation, and shatter the expectations for people of color. He is known for dressing celebrities like Lizzo, Niecy Nash, and Andra Day.

“Bishme represents the intersection of work and art, and creates a space for those who might not have seen themselves in high fashion before this,” says Brianne Mobley, public engagement manager at the Baltimore Museum of Industry.  “He’s the perfect guest to kick off this series of conversations.”

The program takes place Wednesday, October 9 at 6:30PM at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, 1415 Key Highway, Baltimore.  Onsite parking is available free of charge.

Admission is free with online registration here.

Museum members are invited to a VIP meet & greet ahead of the program.

The Labor + Innovation series is co-produced by Cheyanne Zadia.
