Lime doubling down on investing in Atlanta as ridership booms with 826,000 rides in first 7 months of the year, a 40% increase from 2023
Lime, the world’s largest shared electric vehicle company, today unveiled its newest vehicles – the LimeGlider and LimeBike – designed to attract more riders to shared micromobility and expand the use cases Lime vehicles can serve. Building on Lime’s experience of designing its own hardware, the LimeGlider is a brand-new seated vehicle built without pedals for an effortless ride. LimeBike is Lime’s latest e-bike design, built to be more approachable for a wider rider audience. The vehicles are Lime’s latest innovation in its family of shared, affordable, emissions-free vehicles. Lime is currently piloting LimeBike in Atlanta and will launch LimeGlider in Seattle in mid-August, with a pilot in Zurich for both vehicles anticipated in late summer.
“Atlanta is a national leader in sustainable, two-wheeled transportation. We at Lime are embracing the city’s transportation and climate goals by doubling down with major investments in hardware to build on the program’s success. We chose Atlanta as one of the first cities in the world to pilot our throttle e-bike and now the first city to experience LimeBike because it’s a city that advocates for and champions sustainable and alternative transportation.. We are dedicated to improving rider experience and are confident LimeBike will welcome more riders to micromobility” said Carol Antunez, Senior Manager of Government Relations at Lime.
“The Atlanta Department of Transportation is excited for Lime’s newest e-bike launch in the City of Atlanta, as it supports ATLDOT’s commitment to providing sustainable and convenient transportation options for residents and visitors. ATLDOT appreciates Lime’s continued investment in the Atlanta market,” said Ashley Finch, Shared Micromobility Coordinator, City of Atlanta Department of Transportation.
Atlanta is the first city globally to experience LimeBike Lime chose Atlanta due to its steadfast commitment to sustainable transportation innovation, growing investment in biking infrastructure including protected bike lanes and long-standing championing of micromobility. Atlanta also has a highly engaged rider community and a varied mix of topographies we think LimeBike is well-suited for.
Atlanta residents and visitors took over 1.7 million rides on Lime vehicles in 2023, an increase of 175% compared to 2022. The ridership boom has continued into this year with over 826,000 rides taken in the first 7 months of the year, an increase of 40% compared to the same time frame in 2023. Lime believes that continued investments in its service in Atlanta will help facilitate even more exciting ridership numbers for the rest of this year and beyond. Since Lime launched in Atlanta in June 2018, nearly 1 million riders have taken over 4 million total rides, traveling 4.6 million miles. Lime riders have shifted an estimated 980,000 car trips to sustainable e-scooter and e-bike trips, saving an estimated 400 metric tons of carbon emissions and 45,000 gallons of gas.
As ridership booms and Lime makes continuous investments in hardware, Lime remains focused on safe riding and proper parking, Lime is proud that globally over 99.99% of tripsend incident free. Around the world and in Atlanta, Lime is constantly communicating with its riders on how to obey the rules of the road and ride safely, as well as ensuring people know to park properly. The vast majority of riders know and follow the rules, but for those who don’t, Lime warns them and encourages improvement, but reserves the right to fine and potentially even ban repeat offenders.
New Vehicle Mode
Like its throttle e-bike, Lime designed the new LimeBike and LimeGlider in house with riders and the cities it serves in mind. Playing on the company’s original name, the LimeBike is Lime’s latest e-bike design. It intends to complement Lime’s Gen4 model, offering a comfortable experience for a wider range of riders, while sacrificing nothing in fun or practicality. In line with its efforts to improve the rider experience, the LimeBike’s adjustable seat features a new ergonomic clamp design to make it easier for riders to change seat heights. The LimeBike also features a throttle on the handlebars, providing riders the option to either pedal with electric assist, or push down on the throttle to get moving.
“We’re thrilled to unveil two new vehicles we anticipate riders will love,” said Wayne Ting, CEO of Lime. “The LimeGlider and LimeBike offer a glimpse at the future of micromobility, designed to cater to a wider rider audience and use cases, the vehicles bring us closer to our mission of building a future where transportation is shared, affordable and carbon-free. We’ve reimagined every touchpoint, from the tires to the phone holder, to make our riders feel comfortable and confident as they ride. We can’t wait to learn more from our pilots this summer as we continue our track-record of stellar in-house design and truly differentiated hardware.”
