Community invited to attend, celebrate arts and culture with Director of University of Miami’s The U Series, Dawg Fight and Cocaine Cowboys.
The David Posnack Jewish Community Center in Davie is hosting their Cultural Arts Kickoff event with famed Documentary filmmaker Billy Corben on August 28, 2024. Attendees will hear from Emmy, Peabody and Edward R. Murrow Award-winning director Billy Corben to kick off the David Posnack JCC’s exciting season of cultural arts events. Adding to the excitement, the event coincides with the highly anticipated University of Miami vs. University of Florida game and will feature a “tailgate” dinner and drinks. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team gear to the event.
“We’re thrilled to kick off our Cultural Arts programming season with a legendary filmmaker and true Miami icon, Billy Corben,” said Scott Ehrlich, CEO of David Posnack Jewish Community Center. “His talent as a filmmaker is unmatched and we’re honored and excited to host him and the community at this event.”
Corben is a Florida native, lifelong Miamian and co-founder of the Miami Beach-based production company rakontur.
He has directed iconic documentaries including:
- ESPN’s 30 for 30s The U (2009), Broke (2012) and The U Part 2 (2014)
- the Cocaine Cowboys franchise including the Netflix Original The Kings of Miami (2021)
- Screwball (2018)
- HBO Original Documentary 537 Votes (2020)
His latest, God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty (2022) is the most watched documentary in Hulu history. Corben also hosts the weekly #BecauseMiami podcast on Dan LeBatard’s Meadowlark Network.
The David Posnack Jewish Community Center hosts events throughout the year with many high profile guests that cover topics that range from sports to Jewish history and culture.
