Bauman Rare Books to Create New Gallery and Offices at Jack Resnick & Sons’ 485 Madison Avenue

Popular Rare Book Company Celebrates 35-Year Presence in New York City with New Location at Resnick’s Prestigious Plaza District Tower

Jack Resnick & Sons today announced that antiquarian book company Bauman Rare Books is opening a new street-level gallery at 485 Madison Avenue, its prestigious Midtown Manhattan tower.

Founded by Natalie and David Bauman in 1973, Bauman Rare Books has been a New York City fixture since it opened its first midtown gallery in 1989 in the lobby of the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Known for the breadth of their expertise and the exceptional variety and quality of the books they offer, Bauman has built an intensely loyal following and has been a favorite destination in the city for book lovers for many years.

As part of a new ten-year lease, Bauman will occupy 3,500 square feet on the ground and second floors of the 25-story tower.

“Our firm is thrilled to provide a new home for this premier and storied bookseller,” said Jonathan Resnick, President of Jack Resnick & Sons.

According to Natalie Bauman, the Resnick team and the building staff have been incredibly supportive throughout the process of constructing the new gallery. “This feels right on so many levels for our company—a new home where we will thrive. We are so happy to be part of the Resnick family,” she said.

With this agreement, the retail component of 485 Madison is now 100% leased.  Bauman will join bespoke menswear brand Hive & Colony, Swiss shoemaker Le Majordome and Fresco by Scotto Restaurant, which has been a staple at the building since 1993.

Jack Resnick & Sons was represented in-house by Adam Rappaport and Brett Greenberg.  Andrew Goldberg and Christopher Heyn of CBRE represented Bauman Rare Books.

Built in 1929 for the CBS Radio Network, Jack Resnick & Sons acquired the J.E.R. Carpenter-designed 485 Madison in 1976. The distinctive 305,675 square-foot building features a double-height, limestone lobby with soaring, wrap-around mahogany wood panels. Located at the corner of 52nd Street, the property resides in close proximity to Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, multiple subways lines, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and a plethora of shops, restaurants, museums and all amenities that the Plaza District has to offer.  485 Madison has achieved Gold certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED rating system, as well as WiredScore Gold and EnergyStar certifications.
