Sheetz, Inc., the Altoona, Pennsylvania-based operator of restaurant and convenience stores, has leased a nearly three-acre parcel from Hill Management Services, Inc. with plans to open the company’s second location in Harford County, Maryland. The site, positioned at the intersection of US 1 and MD Route 543 near the Hickory Bypass in Bel Air, is adjacent to Five43 Apartments, a 184-unit multifamily community developed by Hill Management’s affiliate company, Peak Management, LLC. Mackenzie Retail’s Tom Fidler and Danielle Bridge of with Hill Management Services represented the landlord and KLNB’s Joe Mekulski and Cooper Henry repped Sheetz.

Sheetz intends to deliver a restaurant-style experience with the development of a nearly 6,200 square foot free-standing store with self-service kiosks, inside and outside seating areas, 12 fuel terminals and a drive-thru lane. The concept offers an extensive menu featuring signature Made-to-Order hamburgers, sandwiches, burritos, pizzas, and salads which are ordered through touch-screen order point terminals. Other items include fresh fruit bowls, parfaits, packaged snacks, and assorted desserts.

“We have been interested in bringing a store location to Bel Air for some time, so we are very excited about this opportunity,” stated Nick Ruffner, Public Relations Manager for Sheetz. “This store will feature a drive through, which is a unique offering for Sheetz – since customers have the chance to purchase      nearly anything from the store from the convenience of their vehicle. The ability to offer that convenience to our customers was a big advantage for this site.”

Sheetz presently operates more than 750 stores throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, and North Carolina and its convenience stores are open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. The company, presently considered the 10th largest convenience store chain in the United States, is embarking on a significant expansion that aims to reach more than 1,000 locations.

Sheetz operates 38 locations in Maryland and opened its first Prince George’s County store earlier this summer. This second location in Harford County joins a site in Joppatowne and is expected to open in summer 2025. Each store employs 30 to 35 people.

According to Sheetz, “road warriors, construction workers, and soccer moms all have a special place at Sheetz. We know you don’t have time to run all over town for the things you need. Sheetz has what you need, when you need it.”

“Sheetz has leased a high-traffic site in a fast-growing section of Harford County, with a built-in audience of nearly 200 multifamily units as its most immediate neighbor,” stated Danielle Beyrodt, Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer of Hill Management Services. “Convenience stores have evolved drastically over the past several years, offer a little bit of everything and are a welcome amenity to the time-deprived customer. Sheetz has a proven model and we are certain the concept will perform exceedingly well at this location.”
