Associated Black Charities (ABC) proudly announces the Equity In Action Conference, an influential event set to take place on October 19th at Maryland LIVE! Hotel and Casino. This transformative gathering will bring together professionals, advocates, and leaders committed to advancing equity for Black communities and other marginalized groups through focused learning tracks designed to create actionable change.
The Equity In Action Conference is a critical space for collaboration, growth, and commitment to equity-driven initiatives. Attendees will benefit from immersive learning tracks, tailored to meet the unique needs of corporations seeking to build inclusive cultures, Black professionals, Black business owners, and those interested in technology innovation. The event will also feature master classes centered on racial equity, offering deep dives into dismantling systemic barriers and creating pathways for sustainable change. Those present will explore actionable strategies for dismantling systemic marginalization, fostering inclusive environments, and driving institutional change. Featuring dynamic panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and presentations by leading voices in economic empowerment, racial equity, tech innovation, and community development, the conference promises to equip participants with tools to create tangible impact in workplaces, communities, and beyond.
Chrissy M. Thornton, President and CEO of ABC, speaks to the urgency and importance of the conference: “We are standing in a defining moment for our communities, one where we can no longer afford to take a passive approach to equity. The Equity In Action Conference provides the platform for every participant—whether a business leader, professional, or entrepreneur—to harness the tools and insights necessary to effect real change. This is about putting equity into action for a more just, inclusive, and empowered future.”
The conference is designed to address the urgent challenges Black communities face today, providing real solutions to bridge economic, social, and technological gaps. The conference comes at a critical time, as Black communities continue to face disproportionate challenges across social and economic spheres. By amplifying inclusive, anti-racist strategies, the event will tackle the pressing issues of underrepresentation, financial barriers, and structural inequities that hinder long-term progress for marginalized groups.
ABC is deeply grateful for the support of its sponsors, whose commitment to equity and inclusion has made this event possible. We thank our supporters to include Maryland Health Connection, Wells Fargo, Johns Hopkins, Afro-American Newspapers, Fulton Bank, M&T Bank, Organization At Its Best, Maryland Office of The Public Defender, My Girl Power Matters, and Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland for their dedication to building a more equitable society.
The Equity In Action Conference is open to all who are passionate about advancing systemic change and building a more inclusive, equitable future for Black communities and beyond. For more information and to register for the conference, visit https://bit.ly/equityinaction2024
Founded in 1985, Associated Black Charities is a racial equity organization that works as an educator, advocate, supporter, and convener to address and eliminate the barriers created by structural racism and to advance long-term solutions that create new opportunities for Black people to thrive. ABC acknowledges structural racism’s effect on the racial wealth gap, workplace discrimination, health inequity, disparities in housing policies and practices, educational inequality, discriminating and dehumanizing laws and policies, and more. Using an equity framework as a convener and thought leader to end race-based barriers that impede Black people from having an opportunity to succeed is at the heart of all of ABC’s programmatic initiatives. https://www.associatedblackcharities.org.
