With three restaurants and two bars on campus, deciding which venue to dine in may be one of the most difficult decisions residents at The Grandview, an Erickson Senior Living community coming to Bethesda, Md., will have to make.
Like all Erickson Senior Living communities, The Grandview will offer Signature Dining, a program that focuses on serving an array of cooked-to-order entrees made with the finest ingredients.
“Other senior living communities have very limited menus that only feature three or four entrees,” notes Kevin Bunn, vice president of Dining Services at Erickson Senior Living. “By contrast, restaurants at our communities feature 20 to 25 offerings.”
He continues, “At The Grandview, residents will have anywhere between 60 and 75 choices to enjoy. We want dining here to be similar to what you experience at your favorite restaurant!”
Crescent Overlook–named after the Capital Crescent Trail, a seven-mile trail that goes through Georgetown in Washington, D.C., to Bethesda–will be a full-service restaurant on the main level of the high-rise building.
On that same floor, residents will be able to grab a burger or salad at West of Wisconsin, named after the thoroughfare linking Bethesda and D.C.
And on the 12th floor, fine dining takes the spotlight at View at 140th, which will also have a rooftop wine bar. All three restaurants will offer al fresco dining areas as well.
“If you’re just coming in from shopping with your family or friends, you can grab a quick bite at West of Wisconsin,” notes Bunn, “but if you’re celebrating your birthday and want to have a fine dining experience, you can go upstairs and dine at View at 140th.”
Two additional restaurants will be coming in the community’s second phase of development.
A healthy advantage
“Best of all, the majority of our dishes are cooked to order,” Bunn notes. “If you have a food allergy or you just don’t like garlic, for example, we can adjust your shrimp scampi to your preference. You don’t get that at many retirement communities. At The Grandview, each dish will be personalized to meet your individual taste.”
Residents will also have access to the ingredients and nutritional information for every meal through the My Erickson app, allowing them to make decisions based on their health goals.
“Each menu will have a dedicated healthy eating section, which are items that are recommended by the FDA. But if you want to treat yourself to fried chicken or a cheesesteak, you can do that, too,” says Bunn.
He adds, “Among the featured items will be filet mignon, halibut, swordfish, prime rib, and scallops.”
Social benefits
In addition to savoring a delectable meal, The Grandview’s restaurants are also the perfect place to catch up with friends and meet new neighbors.
“There will be individual tables and what we call ‘family tables,’ where you pull up a chair and sit with people you may have never met,” says Bunn.
At other Erickson Senior Living communities, themed dinners are very popular, as are the fun culinary events that surround holidays such as St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo.
“We also focus on cultural diversity by having special dinners during Hispanic Heritage Month or Asian American Pacific Islander Month, where our chefs create dishes for residents that may be new to them,” says Bunn.
Whether it’s a quick bite or a festive celebration, you’ll have plenty to like in The Grandview’s unique restaurants!
