Post & Schell, P.C. is pleased to announce that Abraham (Abe) Rein, a near 20-year veteran white collar defense attorney, has been named Chair of Post and Schell’s esteemed White Collar and Internal Investigations Practice Group.
Mr. Rein is a Principal with the firm and, in addition to the White-Collar practice, also chairs the firm’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Group.
Said A. James Johnston, President & Chief Executive Officer of Post & Schell, P.C., “Our firm has long focused on offering individuals and companies outstanding representation when they are the subject of a government investigation and/or face criminal charges. Abe has delivered that and more to our clients who have benefited from his outstanding counsel and thoughtful legal strategies to successfully resolve their matters, with the results being numerous declinations, cessation of investigations, dismissals, favorable settlements and other positive outcomes. His leadership of our practice will ensure we will continue to exceed client expectations.”
“I am excited to take the group into its next phase,” Mr. Rein said. “With the upcoming change in presidential administration, white collar practice is sure to be shaken up in ways that we can’t predict. But we can be sure of a few things: first, whatever comes next will involve novel technologies – AI, cryptocurrency, data security, etc. – and second, a collegial lawyer who’s easy to work with will always be in demand. I’m pleased that my years in Post & Schell’s white-collar practice have taught me about both, and I’m looking forward to applying that knowledge as head of the group.”
Mr. Rein’s clients come from a broad spectrum of industries, including academia, health care, pharmaceutical, medical device, hospitality, insurance, financial services, securities, communications, defense, and transportation. His work focuses on representing individuals and businesses facing government scrutiny of all forms, ranging in scope from securities regulation to insider trading, tax, immigration, False Claims Act, and complex regulatory matters. He also assists companies with internal investigations, whether prompted by a government inquiry, a purported whistleblower, or otherwise.
A prior managing partner of a web development firm, his work often focuses on the intersections between technology and the law, including advising clients on legal aspects of data security, social media compliance, electronic discovery, the application of certain constitutional rights in a digital era, and related topics. Notably, he was part of the team that won the groundbreaking Facebook speech case, United States v. Elonis, in the Supreme Court of the United States, for which he was a co-recipient of the Alan Jay Josel Advocacy Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Mr. Rein serves as treasurer of the Federal Criminal Law Committee for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and is on the Board of the Committee of Seventy. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Pennsylvania (PBA) and Philadelphia Bar Associations and serves on the PBA’s Large Law Firm Committee.
Mr. Rein dedicates a portion of his practice to helping the underserved. He has provided pro bono representation to Guantanamo Bay detainees (for which he was recognized, along with a group of Philadelphia attorneys, with the Federal Bar Association Criminal Law Committee’s Clifford Scott Green Bill of Rights Award), homeless litigants, and prisoners pursuing civil rights claims.
He received his legal degree from New York University School of Law, where he graduated cum laude and served as Articles Editor for the Journal of Legislation and Public Policy. Mr. Rein received his undergraduate degree from Bard College in 1996.
