Cassia Unveils Reconstructed Natures: Suple Tree Sculpture
With Art Basel Miami Beach in full swing, Cassia by Alta Developers is lifting the veil on its planned new art installation: Reconstructed Natures: Suple Tree Sculpture, a work by gt2P.
gt2P works belong to the permanent collection of prestigious institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum, Cooper Hewitt, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, London Design Museum among others. The studio is particularly renowned among Miami art “aficionados” for its Conscious Actions Swing sculpture in the Miami Design District.
The Suple Tree sculpture, part of the Reconstructed Nature series, is a sculptural tribute to the once-flourishing grapefruit trees of Coral Gables, whose roots helped shape the area’s vibrant identity and cultural legacy.
This tall structure, with its slender legs, creates a landmark and meeting point for the Coral Gables community. The sculpture draws inspiration from nature, symbolizing the intricate relationship between our fingers and the delicate branches of a tree.
“That idea resonates with a body of work we have been developing over the past few years called ‘suple,’ which connects different geometries into a single shape,” said Guillermo Parada, Creative Director of the Studio. “Its tree form allows the sculpture to be interpreted in three scales: as a landmark that serves as a reference point, as a sculpture that influences its immediate surroundings, and as an interior space that creates an experience by allowing visitors to pass beneath its branches,” he added.
The sculpture features two distinct components: cylindrical tubes that serve as branches and their connectors, known as suple pieces. At night, internal LEDs illuminate the structure, contributing to the public lighting.
These components represent the coexisting and complementary nature of modernist heritage, utilizing industrialized tubes while embracing the era of mass personalization with the unique shapes of the suples.
Rather than replacing one another, the parts are deliberately fused, serving as a reminder that evolution and continuity do not erase the past but rather enrich the narrative and identity.
“Our hope is that as visitors encounter Suple Tree, they will feel the harmony of heritage and progress, witness the resilience of continuity and nature, and experience the unity that comes from embracing both Coral Gables’ past and its ever-bright future,” said Raimundo Onetto, CEO of Alta Developers. “We believe that integrating art into all of our projects is essential, as it enriches the community and enhances the experience.”
