Former Moose Lodge and Family Center on Crain Highway in Glen Burnie transformed into multi-functional indoor/outdoor climate-controlled turf sports facility and performance center by Chesapeake Real Estate Group and investors
True Sports Physical Therapy has selected the new Moose Athletic Club in Glen Burnie as its inaugural site in Anne Arundel County and ninth in the greater Baltimore metropolitan region. Founded by Dr. Yoni Rosenblatt in 2014, the physical therapy and sports rehabilitation practice signed a lease with Chesapeake Real Estate Group, LLC (CREG) for 4000 square feet of space in the former Moose Lodge and Family Center. CREG, a Baltimore-based commercial real estate development and operating company, acquired the 30,000 square foot building located at 1911 Crain Highway last year.
CREG subsequently transformed the lodge into a multi-functional indoor sports facility featuring a 6,500 square foot turf box arena and 3,900 square foot turf training area, in addition to a fitness and weight room and locker room facility. Moose Athletic Club is suitable for games, practices and training sessions for local youth sports organizations and schools as well as weekend tournaments, specialty instruction programs and camps. It is positioned less than one mile from Interstate 97, MD Route 3 and the University of Maryland Medical Center, as well as two miles from MD Route 100 and five miles from Interstate 695 (Baltimore Beltway). The new configuration began operations in January.
Construction is about to begin on two outdoor multi-purpose full sized turf fields that are suitable for hosting youth sports games and tournaments. The fields are anticipated to be available for use by spring 2022.
True Sports Physical Therapy employs a business model that differentiates itself from other concepts based on the amount of time trained professionals spend with each patient, the event-specific exercises that are used in the rehabilitation session and the physical size of the facility which enables the therapists to replicate actual sports competitions.
“We are fully aware of the stereotype of traditional physical therapy offices including a passive environment, group sessions in which patients do not receive individual and specialized attention and a one-size-fits-all rehabilitative approach,” explained Dr. Yoni Rosenblatt, who earned a Kinesiological Sciences degree from the University of Maryland at College Park and a doctorate of physical therapy degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
“Our first objectives are to engage our patient in the rehabilitation program, establish a level of accountability that encourages them to work hard both inside and outside of our practice and provide a high level of education on our protocols,” Dr. Rosenblatt continued. “Each rehabilitation lasts 45 minutes and is completed in a one-on-one setting. “We believe in the use of active rather that passive modalities because we believe movement is medicine. Our professional physical therapy team also utilizes exercises that are specifically selected based on the exercise or event in which the athlete is participating in.”
The group currently operates locations in Fells Point in Baltimore City; Bel Air in Harford County; Columbia, Frederick in Frederick County; Eldersburg and Woodbine in Howard County; and Timonium and White Marsh in Baltimore County. The new Anne Arundel practice approximately 10 medical professionals and staff and is expected to open in mid-summer.
“There is a lack of physical therapy practices in Anne Arundel County that cater to the elite-level athlete and we typically gravitate to locations in sports facilities such as Moose Athletic Club,” Dr. Rosenblatt added. “The ownership group shares our vision of creating a world-class sports facility in the region and the availability of on-site rehabilitative services is a significant component to the menu of offerings. We were particularly attracted to the possibility of outdoor fields. It is always our intent to imitate and duplicate the specific sports experience whether it be running, throwing, kicking or throwing and that is most effective when full-sized fields are available. The potential for these future fields will create a setting that is unique from our other locations.”
True Sports Physical Therapy provides a wide range of physical therapy and rehabilitation services including orthopedic physical therapy, dry needling and cupping therapy, manual therapy and running rehabilitation and gait analysis. Typical treatments are gearing towards sports-related injuries, lower back pain incurred from repetition or trauma, ACL rehabilitation and foot, ankle, heel and shoulder pain.
“Attracting a physical therapy group of this high stature and level of expertise complements our youth sports programming and training facility objectives,” stated Jim Lighthizer, President of CREG. “Our team studied many sports facilities to gather ideas and concepts during the development phase of this project, and we consistently received input regarding the importance of offering best-in-class rehabilitative services that helps the community at large. We feel extremely fortunate to have Dr. Rosenblatt involved in this venture as the presence of True Sports Physical Therapy brings an even higher level of credibility and visibility to Moose Athletic Club.”
True Sports Physical Therapy has treated former Duke University lacrosse player Deemer Class, former Johns Hopkins lacrosse player Kyle Harrison and numerous professional athletes that competed in the National Football League and Major League Baseball.
Dr. Timothy Stone will be the lead therapist and director of True Sports Anne Arundel County. Dr. Stone brings with him a Doctorate degree from University of Maryland Baltimore and two NCAA Lacrosse National Championship titles from Salisbury University. “I feel fortunate to connect with my patients on a personal level. I have been in their shoes, have had my own injury adversities, and lean on those experiences when working with my patients. I earn their trust and together we do what we need to do to get them playing at the highest level. I’m really excited to serve the amazing athletes of Anne Arundel county and bring something totally different to the area.”
True Sports will also be expanding their operation into the performance arena, offering speed and agility classes as well as individual, small group and team strength and conditioning. “With access to an incredible space and equipment there will be no better one stop shop for all of your rehab, strength and conditioning, and sports training in Maryland.”
