NeighborWorks Housing Solutions Residents Attend Community Leadership Institute

More than 600 resident leaders nationwide at three-day training course in Baltimore

Eight residents of properties in Quincy and Brockton owned by NeighborWorks Housing Solutions (NHS), the leading housing service provider in southern Massachusetts, were among some 600 resident leaders from across the country to recently attend the Community Leadership Institute (CLI) in Baltimore, Maryland.

The three-day training program is designed for participants to “meet, grow, learn, and change.” It is aimed at developing and sharing solutions to a variety of local challenges in an effort to foster greater opportunity. The theme for this year’s CLI was “Diversity to Harmony: Blending Perspectives for Common Goals.”

Participants attended workshops led by experienced practitioners, networked with other resident leaders from around the country, joined tours that highlighted Baltimore’s resident-led efforts, and were made aware of grant funding to carry out resident-led projects back home in their local communities. The three-day program ultimately provided attendees with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to enhance their neighborhoods as places of opportunity and positive growth. Each CLI team will develop and implement a local neighborhood project initiative. “The NeighborWorks CLI Team will focus on ‘Arts in the Community,’” said Antoinette Pabon-Green, Resident Board Member of NeighborWorks Housing Solutions.

NeighborWorks residents attending this year’s CLI were: Pat Gibson; Nicole Luczynski; Kerry Nelson; Kelly Amado; Ivone Casey; Sonia Cardoso; and Board of Directors member Antoinette Pabon-Green.

“Community-based leadership is a key to the success of our economic and housing development strategy, and we are so grateful to the residents who have stepped up to help lead this program for their neighborhoods,” said Robert Corley, CEO of NeighborWorks Housing Solutions.

“This exceptional program emphasizes the significance of inclusivity, celebrates and embraces diversity, and encourages the acknowledgment of shared objectives,” said Veronica Truell, CLI Team Leader from NeighborWorks Housing Solutions, noting “we are so proud and excited about all they learned and will accomplish in our Quincy and Brockton neighborhoods in the coming year.”
