— Salmoran Family to Bring Authentic Taste of Mexico to Bowie as Part of Maryland Expansion —
Harry, Fredy and Fredy, Jr. Salmoran
NAI Michael Companies today announced that Mi Lindo Cancun Grill, part of the fast-growing family-owned restaurant group based in Annapolis, will open its sixth location at South Lake Marketplace, the retail centerpiece of Bowie’s transformative $1.3 billion mixed-use development. The authentic Mexican restaurant concept will occupy approximately 5,000 square feet including an outdoor patio area.
The signing represents another milestone in a success story that began in 1999, when 18-year-old Fredy Salmoran and his young, pregnant wife, Della, left the town of Oaxaca, Mexico with hopes of securing a better life for their growing family. Arriving in Annapolis, Md., Fredy Salmoran worked three jobs a day, seven days a week – including positions as a dishwasher, cook and janitor. He learned the business and saved enough money to open his first restaurant in 2013, Mi Lindo Cancun Grill on Forest Drive in Annapolis.
Since opening the first restaurant on Forest Drive in Annapolis, the Salmoran family’s portfolio has grown to include three Señor Chile restaurants in Edgewater, Md., Arnold, Md. and on Kent Island. In 2023, they opened their largest venture to date – Amigos Mexican Grill in Laurel, Md. The restaurant group employs more than 200 people, with the new South Lake Marketplace location expected to add up to 50 additional jobs to the local economy.
“South Lake Marketplace represents the perfect opportunity to bring our vision of authentic Mexican dining to Prince George’s County,” said Harry Salmoran, who operates the restaurant group alongside his father Fredy, mother Della, brother Fredy Jr. and master chef and uncle Temo Salmoran. “We like to say the customer eats with their eyes first, so when they try our food, it’s almost a double satisfaction. Each dish tells a story through its presentation and flavors, connecting our guests to the rich culinary traditions of Mexico.”
Mi Lindo Cancun Grill at South Lake Marketplace in Bowie is expected to open in the fall of 2025.
“What makes our restaurants special is the family touch in everything we do,” Harry Salmoran added. “Every recipe, every plate name, every design element has a story that connects back to our family’s roots, from Quintana Roo to Oaxaca, Cancun and Tulum. When customers see the food and experience our hospitality, they’re not just dining – they’re experiencing our family’s Mexican culture and heritage.”
The Salmoran Group’s expansion plans extend beyond South Lake Marketplace and their Maryland restaurants. They are currently developing Señor Market, a high-end Mexican grocery store concept that will launch in Hillsmere near Annapolis, and they are also preparing to launch their own tequila brand.
The announcement marks the third restaurant commitment for South Lake Marketplace, joining Ma Pearl’s, a Creole and Cajun concept created by renowned restaurateur Lance London, and 4th Quarter Sports Bar by Prince George’s County native and former NBA player Quinn Cook. All three establishments are minority-owned and operated, reflecting the development’s commitment to local entrepreneurship.
