Q: What inspired the founding of Aluratek, and how has the company evolved over the past 20 years?
Aluratek was founded with the desire to bring technological solutions to the marketplace at an affordable price for the consumer. Simply put, Aluratek wanted to make people’s lives better through its technology.
Q: What do you consider Aluratek’s most significant innovations, and how have they influenced the market?
Aluratek launched into the Digital Photo Frame category in 2008. Aluratek realized the excitement families shared by seeing photos and videos of their loved ones. So many people have digital photos and videos sitting on their computer hard drives. The digital photo frame brings those precious memories back to life on a daily basis when incorporated into slide shows.
Q: What leadership qualities have been most critical to your success in guiding Aluratek through two decades of change? I believe strong leaders must have a vision of where they want to go and how to get there. I also believe in leading by example. I feel if your team respects you, they will want to work hard for you to help you achieve your shared goals and objectives.
Q: What’s a lesson you’ve learned in your career that you wish you knew 20 years ago?
20 years ago, I underestimated the value of marketing/building a brand and how important branding is for the company. Especially now with most consumers purchasing online and reading online reviews, branding is more important than ever.
Q: What have been the biggest challenges Aluratek has faced as a company, and how did you overcome them?
Starting a new company requires a significant amount of cash especially in the beginning as a technology company. Cash flow was always an issue and challenge. When Aluratek needed capital, no banks wanted to lend it money, but now when Aluratek is well-capitalized, all the banks want to lend us money. It’s like the Alanis Morissette song “Isn’t it Ironic”
Q: With increasing global competition, what strategies have you used to maintain Aluratek’s edge in the consumer tech space?
Aluratek’ s R&D efforts afford new features that make our Digital Photo Frames best in class such as Wifi, Touch Screen, Smart Phone APP features. These all help to make sending photos and videos easier than ever before.
Q: What trends do you see shaping the future of consumer tech in the next five to ten years?
Aluratek is closely monitoring the advances in AI and how it can incorporate this into its product lineup. We absolutely believe AI will change how we all live moving forward. I have to admit that it is kind of scary though!
Q: What’s next for Aluratek? Are there any exciting new products or initiatives on the horizon?
Aluratek has launched a new digital lifestyle device called the “PicStick”. This is a great solution to turn any TV into a larger Digital Photo Frame for instant photo/video sharing with loved ones. So many people spend thousands of hours on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok because they love social media and interaction. The “PicStick” bodes well for this lifestyle trend. Aluratek will continue to advance its product lineups. Another exciting new technology is related to e-Ink displays. This new technology will allow the consumer to view high quality photos without the need to power on the device making it a lot more accessible for wall art and family photos.
