Tiffany Burns, global real estate advisor with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty’s Sanibel and Captiva office, has been appointed to the Sanibel Planning Commission. The commission plays a critical role in safeguarding Sanibel Island’s future by guiding land use and development decisions focusing on sustainability, preservation, and thoughtful growth.
As a long-time resident and accomplished real estate professional, Burns brings a wealth of expertise to her new role. “The nature of selling real estate at this level involves daily conversations with a diverse array of property owners, providing me with invaluable insight into the challenges they face,” Burns stated. Her extensive knowledge of building codes and land use regulations in Sanibel and neighboring municipalities positions her to offer informed perspectives that align with the commission’s mission.
Burns’ connection to the island runs deep. She has overseen and consulted on the construction and/or remodel of dozens of island properties including the design and construction of two personal residences on the island in the last eight years alone. “There is no greater teacher than experience,” she explained, highlighting the importance of her hands-on involvement in shaping the island’s architectural landscape.
One of Burns’ primary goals as a commissioner is to uphold the founding vision of Sanibel, which emphasizes environmental stewardship and responsible development. “Sanibel’s founders were ahead of their time in recognizing the need to balance growth with ecological preservation,” she noted. “Their forward-thinking approach continues to serve as a model for other municipalities across Florida.”
In the wake of Hurricane Ian, Burns is particularly focused on ensuring that rebuilding efforts restore and enhance the island’s resilience and quality of life. “The storm brought unprecedented challenges, but it also created an opportunity to implement innovative solutions that will benefit residents for years to come,” she added.
Burns earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees with high honors from the University of Florida, specializing in decision and information sciences. Her IT expertise has enhanced the Burns Family Team’s marketing, making them one of Southwest Florida’s top-producing real estate teams.
She and her husband, Jeff, are raising their daughter in Sanibel and actively support local organizations, including FISH, CROW, and the Sanibel School.
