When Ciena Healthcare founder Mohammad Qazi decided he was ready to step back from the everyday demands of being both president and CEO of an 83-facility nursing home chain, he looked to his former competition for relief.
Qazi has tapped David Parker, former senior care division president of ProMedica and a long-time HCR ManorCare executive, to lead Ciena into its next era of growth — whether that be strategic, physical or both.
Parker’s appointment as CEO marks his return to the provider side of the skilled nursing market. He left ProMedica for personal reasons in 2021, more than a year before the organization exited a joint venture agreement with Welltower, which then allocated most of its senior care assets to new operators.
