January 2, 2025 (Chantilly, VA): Farmside Kitchen, a modern fast-casual eatery inspired by farm-fresh flavors and sustainable practices, will open its doors on Thursday, January 2nd at The Field at Commonwealth (14385 Newbrook Dr #500, Chantilly, VA 20151). Helmed by two industry veterans previously at CAVA Group, the new location marks Farmside Kitchen’s first entry into the DMV market after its successful debut in Durham, NC. Known for its wholesome, customizable bowls and Americana-inspired cuisine, Farmside Kitchen is built to meet the diverse dietary needs of guests while prioritizing partnerships with local farmers and planet-conscious practices.
Farmside Kitchen will offer free food for the first two hours of service from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on January 2nd, providing the local community an opportunity to try any item on the menu. Guests will have the option to make a donation to Northern Virginia-based Arcadia Farms, an organization cultivating vibrant local food systems that prioritize health, equity, and sustainability from the farm forward. Farmside Kitchen will match every donation collected.
“We’re so excited to welcome the Chantilly community to Farmside Kitchen,” said CEO Meg Schiffman. “We created Farmside to make eating well simple and satisfying—serving up delicious, wholesome food that truly leaves you feeling good. It’s a place where local ingredients, sustainable practices, and a warm, inviting environment come together. We’re also proud to support Arcadia Farms and their incredible work strengthening local food systems right here in Northern Virginia.”
The menu is anchored by its signature “Farmbowls” – hearty, nutrient-packed bowls crafted with fresh grains, leafy greens, and proteins like grilled chicken, tofu, and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Guests can also build their own bowl or choose from nine expertly curated options that accommodate a variety of preferences, from keto to vegan. Farmbowls will range from $9.95 to $11.95, with group ordering options available.
A kid-friendly menu will feature items like the “Little Farmer Bowl,” crispy baked chicken nuggets, mac n’ cheese, and grilled cheese on organic sourdough. Kids’ meals will be priced at $6.45.
Farm-Fresh, Americana-Style Ingredients:
“Not all lettuce is created equal, which is why we work to source the freshest, most nutrient dense produce from farms where we can get behind their farming practices, ensuring what our guests eat is of the highest quality,” said Ben Protheroe, VP of Operations and Culinary Development.
Many ingredients featured at the Chantilly location will be sourced from farms less than two hours away, including hydroponically grown lettuces from Greenswell Farms and vegetables from Parker Farms, both in Virginia. “Local sourcing means shorter distances for food to travel, which leads to fresher, more nutrient-dense ingredients, fewer carbon emissions during transit and less packaging,” said Schiffman. “That adds up to a happier, healthier planet – and a happier, healthier Farmbowl.”
Farmside will also partner with SIMPLi, the leading regenerative organic pantry staples brand, to bring their regeneratively grown white quinoa to the menu, and Lyon Bakery in Hyattsville, MD, a local bakery renowned for their signature sourdough bread.
A Warm, Modern Experience
Farmside Kitchen blends rustic and modern design aesthetics, creating a comfortable, welcoming space where guests can enjoy flavorful, satisfying meals. The restaurant’s commitment to sustainability extends to its operations, with eco-friendly practices like compostable bowls and forks and a commitment to local sourcing.
“At Farmside Kitchen, our philosophy is to be good to the planet, good to the community and good to your taste buds. We can’t wait to serve what we’ve been cooking up to the Chantilly community,” said CEO Meg Schiffman.
The restaurant will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
